53 minute feature film DVD. Feeling exhausted and unappreciated by the children of the world, Santa Claus decides to take a year off from Christmas. Unable to rouse him from his sickbed, Mrs. Claus sends elves Jingle and Jangle and the reindeer Vixen to bring back proof that children still hold faith and admiration for Christmas. After narrowly escaping the clutches of villains Heat Miser and Snow Miser, the elves arrive in South Town, USA. There they are immediately ticketed by a policeman, and Vixen is thrown into an animal pound. When Santa Claus learns of their perils, he jumps from his bed and goes to the rescue. Posing as a human, the sickly Santa searches for Jingle, Jangle, and Vixen, and in his search he finds the best medicine of all, a generous family who still believes in the spirit of Christmas.
Featuring the voices of Shirley Booth, Mickey Rooney, and the late great Dick Shawn, THE YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS is a poignant film that criticizes society's waning generosity for others. As the children of the world take the gift of giving for granted, it's up to the team of Rankin and Bass to show them what it would be like if Christmas ceased to exist. What a classic movie. When I seen it was available on DVD I had to have it. Snow Miser is a legend.

Great DVD!
My family and I were thrilled with this DVD! For those of you who are waiting for the "Nestor, the Long-eared Christmas Donkey" movie (it is on back-order), wait no more. This DVD has the title movie, "Nestor" and "Rudolph's Shiny New Year" on ONE DVD!!!! My kids love it (ages 4, 8 and 17). I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who is as addicted as I am to these classic animations. My little ones think it is strange that I only got to see them once a year when I was a child!

The love saga winds to a close as Belinda (Sarah Jones) takes on a new responsibility while accepting guidance from the place she least expected it. This live-action/computer-animated update of Ross Bagdasarian's squeaky-voiced cartoon characters finds the chipmunks (in CGI form) transported from their woodland habitat to the city, where they wind up in the home of Dave Seville (Jason Lee). Dave, a down-on-his-luck songwriter, realizes the potential of a singing chipmunk pop act, and becomes an unlikely mentor/father figure to feisty Alvin, brainy Simon, and dopey Theodore. Meanwhile, the threesome causes chaos in his life, leading to plenty of fun, frenetic scenarios.
