| | Faith Hill Breathe CD (1999)
Vision Quest review
$11.99 Faith Hill won the 2000 CMA Award for Female Vocalist Of The Year.
BREATHE won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Country Album. "Breathe" won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. "Let's Make Love" won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. "Breathe" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award in the categories of Best Country Song and Song Of The Year. "The Way You Love Me" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Country Song.
With her third album, FAITH, Faith Hill tasted pop crossover success--and she evidently liked the taste. BREATHE, Hill's fourth release, takes the pop/country stylings of FAITH to the next level. It's an appealing collection of pop, gospel, R&B, rock, and ballads, with just a bit of country thrown in. The production, featuring Hill's big voice surrounded by booming drums and screaming guitars, is so slick you could skate on it.
Love is the subject of nearly every song, from the exuberant "I Got My Baby," to the soulful "Love Is a Sweet Thing," to the cutesy "The Way You Love Me," with its Beatlesque backing vocals. But while Hill can obviously handle a wide range of material, she sounds best on the quieter, country-flavored numbers, like the title track, the lovely "It Will Be Me," and a haunting, vaguely Latin-flavored reworking of Bruce Springsteen's "If I Should Fall Behind." The most emotional track is "Let's Make Love," a full-fledged duet with Hill's husband Tim McGraw. Because McGraw's voice is unmistakably country, Hill adopts a similar sound to match him. And ...

Vision Quest DVD
$25.65 Those who aren't familiar with the work of seminal 1980s band The Talking Heads may find themselves becoming instant fans after viewing this incredibly entertaining concert film. It starts with David Byrne stepping out alone on empty stage with an acoustic guitar to sing "Psycho Killer." The rest of the musicians follow one by one and the stage gradually fills to bursting with powerful, tightly orchestrated brilliance. Director Jonathan Demme (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, PHILADEPLPHIA) expertly captures the music's energy, fusing cinema with performance to create something more than the sum of its parts. Through it all, Byrne comes off as a charismatic artist of supernatural energy and robotic precision, and he's backed by an equally inspired group of musicians, including bassist Tina Weymouth. Artistically ambitious, filled with joyous but controlled energy, this is considered ...

$10.39 In M. Night Shyamalan's THE SIXTH SENSE, Bruce Willis plays Dr. Malcolm Crowe, a successful Philadelphia child psychologist who is haunted by the sudden reappearance and suicide of a former patient. As Dr. Crowe struggles to determine what torments Cole, he must also come to terms with his increasingly distant relationship to his wife (Olivia Williams). Meanwhile, Cole is unable to describe the horrible things he sees even to his worried mother (Toni Collette). The scene where Cole finally tells Dr. Crowe about his supernatural secret is one of the 1990s most quoted and well-known cinematic moments.
A gripping ghost story with a stunning finale, THE SIXTH SENSE became a surprise blockbuster shortly after its release. The film features Oscar-nominated performances by the ...

Vision Quest review
$15.49 Wim Wenders's emotional LAND OF PLENTY is a powerful exploration of post-9/11 America. John Diehl gives a strong performance as Paul, a Vietnam Vet who is haunted by the events of September 11 and drives the streets of Los Angeles searching for terrorists he is sure are going to strike again. DAWSON CREEK's Michelle Williams, in a breakout role, plays Paul's niece, Lana, who has been living in Israel and has come to California to work at a homeless mission. Each is firmly dedicated to what they see is their job of making America better--and safer--even though they come from two very different worlds. When a homeless Muslim is gunned down, Paul and Lana team up on a road trip; while Lana wants to deliver the body to the dead man's family, Paul wants to find the terrorist cell he believes the man was working for. Their cross-country journey reveals several sides of America and its multitude of reactions to the attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. Wenders, who has helmed such beautiful, offbeat films as WINGS OF DESIRE and PARIS, TEXAS, made LAND OF PLENTY in just sixteen days, using a digital camera to give it a realistic yet disarming feel, accompanied by yet another killer soundtrack, featuring songs by Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Travis, and Thom & Nacht.
Using the streets of downtown Los Angeles as a backdrop, Wim Wender's emotional film is a darkly humorous and powerful exploration of post-9/11 America. John Diehl stars as Paul, a troubled Vietnam vet who is haunted by the events of September 11 and searches Los Angeles for terrorists he is convinced are going ...
