This 103 minute feature film is a DVD starring Humphrey Bog art and Ingrid Bergman.

World War II Morocco springs to life in Michael Curtiz's (THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD, YANKEE DOODLE DANDY) classic love story. Colorful characters abound in Casablanca, a waiting room for Europeans trying to escape Hitler's war-torn Europe. Humphrey Bogart plays Richard "Rick" Blaine, a cynical but good-hearted American whose café is the gathering place for everyone from the French Police to the black market to the Nazis. When his long-lost love, Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), surfaces in Casablanca with her Resistance leader husband, Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), Rick is pulled into both a love triangle and a web of political intrigue. Ilsa and Victor need to escape from Casablanca, and Rick may be the only one who can help them. The question is, will he? Top-notch performances include Claude Rains as the chief of the French police and the major authority figure in Unoccupied France, Peter Lorre as the doomed Senor Ugarte, Sydney Greenstreet as Senor Ferrari, and Dooley Wilson as Rick's loyal friend and the café's pianist, Sam. The mesmerizing musical score, by Max Steiner, along with the well-structured plot, flawless acting, and unforgettable dialogue makes this one of the best films of all time.

CASABLANCA was an original selection to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1989. "As Time Goes By," the song that became this film's anthem, not to mention theme song, was originally written for the Broadway musical EVERYBODY'S WELCOME, which opened on October 13, 1931 and ran for 139 performances. The composer, Herman Hupfeld, was also known for the song "When Yuba Plays the Rumba on the Tuba." The film's producer, Hal B. Wallis, was awarded the Academy's Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1943. In his 1995 memoir MY AMERICAN JOURNEY, General Colin Powell lists CASABLANCA as one of his favorite films. Additional credits: Hugh MacMullan (dialogue director), Robert Aisner (technical adviser). Copyright 1943 Warner Bros. Pictures, Inc.

Casablanca Quotes/Excerpts:

"Here's looking at you, kid."--Humphrey Bogart (Rick) to Ingrid Bergman (Ilsa) at least three times during the course of the film "Only one answer can take care of all our questions."--Ilsa just before kissing Rick "But of course, that was the day the Germans marched into Paris." "Not an easy day to forget. I remember every detail--the Germans wore gray, you wore blue."--Interchange between Rick and Ilsa at his cafe after seeing each other for the first time in years "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."--Rick about Ilsa

Casablanca Reviews:

"...Absolutely sound, rock-solid in its use of Hollywood studio craftsmanship....The black-and-white cinematography has not aged as color would. The dialogue is so spare and cynical it has not grown old-fashioned..." -- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"...One of the most perfect Hollywood movies ever made..." -- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly

"Possibly the most famous film ever made, CASABLANCA has everything..."-- Ceri Thomas, Total Film

"...Here Humphrey Bogart transformed himself into a romantic hero..." -- Premiere Staff, Premiere

"Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart provide the chemistry that sets this apart from countless other tales of doomed wartime love affairs." -- Andrea Toal, Sight and Sound

5 stars excellent handling of an all time classic
According to Lauren Bacall, this movie is considered by many, to be the second best movie of all time. Although she doesn't say so, I'm sure Citizen Kane is in the number one slot. Considering the status placed on this film you would expect a certain amount of respect in the releasing of this movie. I felt that this release does not disappoint. It includes many behind the scenes interviews and shots that have become common on DVD releases. What makes this special, is that you don't generally get this kind of background on a film that is over 60 years old. While many of the sound tracks for the extras were lost many years ago, it is fascinating to see what has been saved after all this time. It also is an insight into the acting craft and how it was viewed at that time in watching the outtakes. All time great movie and an excellent DVD release.

"Genie In A Bottle" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. "What A Girl Wants" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Christina Aguilera rocketed to the top of the charts with the smash hit "Genie in a Bottle" from this self-titled debut and placed herself among a leading generation of young, multi-talented pop artists. Like fellow performers Britney Spears, J.C. and Justin of 'N Sync, and actress Keri Russell, who stars in the TV show Felicity, Aguilera is a graduate of the New Mickey Mouse Club television program. Songs such as "What a Girl Wants" with its guitar-driven melody, and the soulful gospel strain of "So Emotional" show Christina Aguilera's polish. Some of the other tracks that stand out are the powerful "I Turn to You," which was written by Diane Warren; "Reflection," which was produced by Matthew Wilder; and the dance floor mover "Love Will Find a Way," from hit makers Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers. Always one for a remix, Madonna follows the AMERICAN LIFE album with an EP that includes alternate mixes of four album tracks. "Nothing Fails (Nevins Mix)" glides along on an acoustic guitar line and skittering, distorted beats, while 1980s revisionists Mount Sims take on "Nobody Knows Me" with a dirty keyboard/vocoder barrage. Finally the Headcleanr rock mixes of "Love Profusion" and "American Life" are energetic, guitar-heavy versions of the originals. Also included on REMIXED & REVISITED is a ...

DVD $7.95  5 stars Top 500
In his second screen adventure, groovy superspy Austin Powers (Mike Myers) returns to 1969, where one after another hilarious gag is worked into a silly, stumbling, knee-slapping plot. This time around, Austin Powers' arch-nemesis Dr. Evil (also Myers) is joined by a midget-sized clone of himself, Mini-Me (Verne Troyer). Having successfully stolen Austin's "mojo" (his libido), Dr. Evil can concentrate on his ultimate mission of destroying the world. Meanwhile, Austin, with the help of gorgeous agent Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham), must now not only contend with Dr. Evil, but also the small but vicious Mini-Me. Also in this installment, Evil's son, Scott (Seth Green), finds out who his mother is, and Mike Myers stars as a third character--rotund and truly disgusting Scotsman Fat Bastard. More raucous fun in the spirit of its 1997 smash predecessor, AUSTIN POWERS: THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME once again thrills audiences with its inexhaustible ...

"The Great Beyond" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. As 1999 closed out, the genius of anarchist comedian Andy Kaufman came to light in a Milos Forman film named for an early '90s R.E.M. SONG that was a tribute to the late entertainer. Fittingly, the Athens, GA group was brought in to compose the score. Like the quirky comic, the soundtrack to his life story is an unconventional collection of songs. Aural landmarks include the previously released title track, the Sandpipers' "Mighty Mouse Theme (Here I Come to Save the Day)" (which Kaufman used as a lip-synch prop during his now infamous debut on Saturday Night Live), Bob James' "Angela (Theme From Taxi)," and chunks of film dialogue. Much like his heralded performance in the film, Jim Carrey reprises both Kaufman and his obnoxious alter ego Tony Clifton on the soundtrack. Although a boorish take on "I Will Survive" by Clifton is best skipped over, more appealing is Kaufman/Carrey and R.E.M. teaming up on the catchy sweetness of "This Friendly World," which is minimally affected by the arrival of Clifton/Carrey ...

CITIZEN KANE is Orson Welles's greatest achievement--and a landmark of cinema history. The story charts the rise and fall of a newspaper publisher whose wealth and power ultimately isolates him in his castle-like refuge. The film's protagonist, Charles Foster Kane, was based on a composite of Howard Hughes and William Randolph Hearst--so much so that Hearst tried to have the film suppressed. Every aspect of the production marked an advance in film language: the deep focus and deeply shadowed cinematography (from Gregg Toland); the discontinuous narrative, relying heavily on flashbacks and newsreel footage (propelled by a script largely written by Herman L. Mankiewicz); the innovative use of sound and score (sound by Bailey Fesler and James G. Stewart, music composed and conducted by Bernard Herrmann); and the ensemble acting forged in the fires of Welles's Mercury Theatre (featuring the film debuts of, among others, Joseph Cotten, Everett Sloane, and Agnes Moorehead). Every moment of the film, every shot, has been choreographed to perfection. The film is essential viewing, quite possibly the greatest film ever made and, along with THE BIRTH OF A ...

On an American military base in Japan, a new kind of vampire emerges: Teropterids. They are monstrous shape-shifting creatures that can only be killed with special swords. A mysterious girl named Saya is the last "original," the only person capable of dealing with the menace of these monsters. Posing as a student at the base's school, Saya races to hunt down the beasts before they turn an ordinary Halloween bash into a bloody massacre. Production IG, known for their pioneering digital effects, describes BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE as a full digital animation movie, which means that even though many sequences were animated using pencil and paper, the artwork was digitally scanned. Inking and coloring were completed by computer, as were several other special effects. Hiroyuki Kitakubo was chosen to direct the project ...

Former stand-up comic Tim Allen got his big break as Tim the "Tool Man" Taylor on this popular 1990s family sitcom. HOME IMPROVEMENT revolves around the career and family life of an average, but likeable handyman and car enthusiast who hosts a local home-maintenance show called "Tool Time." The sitcom's humor comes from Tim's squabbles with his wife Jill (Patricia Richardson), and his three sons: Mark, Randy, and Brad (Taran Noah Smith, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and Zachary Ty Brian), and his mishaps on and off the set of "Tool ...

The British espionage drama MI-5 proved frighteningly prescient with the first episodes of the fourth season. While the show had always been topical, its relevance ascended to new heights with episodes about a bombing in London. Though they aired a few months after the real-life events, they were written before the attacks on London's public transportation system. While fellow spy show ALIAS provides an entertaining escape for its audience, MI-5 never fails to challenge its viewers with fast-paced action ...

Cult filmmaker Aristide Massaccesi (aka "Joe D'Amato") directed this softcore sleazefest which rather unsuccessfully weds a traditional '70s Italian crime film with raunchy (if not particularly graphic) sexual situations. Two thugs rob a Mafia-protected drugstore and take a female hostage from a nearby porn shop, coincidentally owned by the same mobster, Martin. With their captive in tow, the pair of thieves meet up with their other partner and flee for the Canadian border, stopping off at a mansion in Connecticut where three college kids have broken in to have a party. Various sexual escapades ensue before Martin and his gang track down the thieves. Anne Maria Clementi, Brigitte Petronio, Fernando Ceruli, and Christian Borromeo star. Distraught ...
