Soundtrack English; Sensor Matic Set during the height of the late 1980s insider-trading scandals, WALL STREET stars Charlie Sheen as Bud Fox, an ambitious young broker who falls under the spell of superbroker Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas). ... Full DescriptionInitially awed by the glitz and wealth of the older man, Bud is all too eager follow his commands, especially after enjoying their results. But he soon realizes that he too is merely a pawn in Gekko's game, as he labors frantically to disentangle his loved ones from the consequences of his own ambition.Oliver Stone opened fire on the greed decade of the 1980s with this morality tale set on Wall Street. It stars Charlie Sheen as Bud Fox, an ambitious rookie stockbroker from a blue-collar background who is mesmerized by Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), a Mephistophelean superbroker who specializes in corporate takeovers. Despite his initial resistance to Bud's entreaties, Gekko finally takes on the eager beaver as his protégé, schooling him in the kind of slash-and-burn maneuvers that have taken Gekko to the top. This style is far more attractive to Fox than the more prosaic but principled approach to investing preached by veteran Lou Mannheim (Hal Holbrook). And, at first, it's impossible to dispute his preference; as Bud's life moves into the fast lane, he quickly acquires an upscale apartment and a girlfriend to match, interior designer Darien (Darryl Hannah). But when Gekko demands that Bud not only break the law but directly undermine his union-leader father, Carl (Martin Sheen), and jeopardize the jobs and lives of his friends and family, he realizes that the cost of success might be more than he's willing to pay. WALL STREET is a riveting, testosterone-fueled tour of the Street's upper echelons, featuring standout performances by Michael Douglas and Martin Sheen. The film began shooting April 24, 1987; completed shooting July 4, 1987. Released in the USA December 11, 1987. Shown at the Berlin Film Festival February 1988. Released on video July 7, 1988.
Filmed in New York City and Utah.
Estimated budget: $16 million.
Stone dedicated the film to his stockbroker father.
Shown at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Film Festival in a tribute to Edward Pressman.
For maximum authenticity, director Oliver Stone made sure that Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen spent time with numerous brokers and arbitrage experts who were hired as consultants. Sheen also met with a former Wall Street employee who had pleaded guilty to insider trading. Wall Street Quotes/Excerpts: "Greed is good."--Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas)

$14.55 The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, CAGLIOSTRO is a great heist/chase film that surpasses most similar live action fare and breezes by with more than a couple of inventive set pieces, as well as some excellent comic dialogue.
100 minute Japanese animation DVD. Master thief Lupin III, aka the wolf, and his right-hand gunman Jigen are hot o n the trail of a counterfeiter who swindled them...but they find far more than they are looking for when their search leads them to the secluded European country of Cagliostro.

$7.49 With his third version of THE GOLEM, director, writer, and actor Paul Wegener is credited with creating the first horror movie series, and historians consider THE GOLEM AND THE DANCER (his 1917 follow-up to the 1914 original) to be the first sequel in cinema history. Based on a legend in Jewish mysticism, in 16th-century Prague community leader and astrologer Rabbi Loew (Albert Steinrück) foresees doom for the Jews. When the emperor decrees a pogrom of the Jewish ghetto, Loew molds a forbidding clay golem (Wegener) to save his people. Loew invokes a demon spirit to retrieve a magic word that he places in an amulet on the creature's chest. Once the word is positioned, the giant wedge-haired automaton lives. Danger ensues, however, when Loew's assistant, Famulus (Ernst Deutsch), uses the golem to settle a score with Florian (Lothar Müthel), a knight who has stolen his sweetheart, Miriam (Lyda Salmonova). THE GOLEM's influence on future horror films was significant, particularly James Whale's FRANKENSTEIN. Wegener's distorted sets and chiaroscuro lighting, complemented by Karl Freund's expert photography, make the film an excellent example of German Expressionism and an important contribution by German mega studio UFA to the golden age of Weimar cinema.

$7.15 Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Frank W. Abagnale's autobiography CATCH ME IF YOU CAN follows the cat-and-mouse chase of Abagnale (Leonardo DiCaprio) and FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) as Abagnale travels the world passing forged checks and assuming false identities. Covering the time period from 1963-69, the film leaps from the suburbs of New York to Georgia, Louisiana, Miami, France and the skies of Pan American airlines with Abagnale, who passes himself off as a pilot, doctor, lawyer and socialite, while constantly frustrating Hanratty's attempts to nab the increasingly cunning forger.
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN finds Spielberg drawing on the father-son relationship that develops between Abagnale and Hanratty, filling a void left in the lives of each man: Abagnale's strained relationship with his tax-cheat father (Christopher Walken) and Hanratty's never-seen family left behind in the wake of a divorce. $20.89 A 1960s favorite, GOOD MORNING WORLD boasted an all-star cast made up of Joby Baker, Goldie Hawn, Billy DeWolfe, Julie Parrish, and Ronnie Schell. Revolving around the business and social affairs of the workers at a small L.A. radio station, the series featured two DJs struggling to maintain some sense of order while dealing with endless chaos and mishaps resulting from their entanglements with women. This release includes each of the 26 episodes from the entire series.

Given its pedigree of executive producers Sheldon Leonard and Carl Reiner, it becomes easy to draw parallels between Good Morning, World and The Dick Van Dyke Show. Here, half the program focuses on what happens at the radio station with the other half focusing on their home lives. The writing is brisk and slick, and the "Nude Ranch" episode stands out as a defining episode, not to mention cutting edge for the mid
