128 minute feature fim DVD starring James Cromwell and Sam Shepard. From the director of SHINE comes this multi-layered drama of love, betrayal, and forgiveness, based on the novel by David Guterson. In a small Pacific Northwest town in the 1950s, a Japanese-American man (Yune) is tried for the murder of a man based on a long-standing grudge. Reporter Ishmael Chambers (Hawke) may be able to prevent injustice from happening, but he and the man's wife (Kudoh) are childhood sweethearts who split apart when the Japanese community of the town was sent to internment camps after Pearl Harbor. Ishmael must balance his sense of betrayal and lost opportunity with the desire to do the right thing. Director Hicks uses a series of overlapping flashbacks to tell his story in a complex, fable-like manner, joined by magnificent cinematography and music. Based on David Guterson's best-selling novel, this is the story of a Japanese-American who must stand trial for the murder of a man with whom he's had a lifelong grudge. Ishmael Chambers (Ethan Hawke) is a reporter who has information that could potentially prove the defendant's innocence, but complications arise when he discovers that the man's wife (Youki Kudoh) was his first love. The two were forced to separate after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but their reunion has Chambers confused about which choice he should make. Gorgeous photography highlights this romantic drama with a political edge. Snow Falling On Cedars Reviews: "SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS is an impeccably crafted [film]..."

$6.99 In a remarkable and touching performance, Jim Carrey tones down his usual idiosyncrasies to play late avant garde comedian Andy Kaufman in MAN ON THE MOON. In life, Kaufman was a complex, controversial, and, at times, insane performer, and Carrey captures this, as well as the subtle nuances of his more toned-down private life. Director Milos Forman stages faithful recreations of Kaufman's pranks, ...

Snow Falling On Cedars review
$7.09 Covers the period from 1965-1971; Produced and released in 1991.
Val Kilmer stars as Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's electrifying profile of the Doors, which takes the group from its inception to its demise with the death of the "Lizard King" in a Paris hotel room in 1971. In the early days of the group's formation, Morrison is at his most benign; he's just a guy hanging out at the beach writing poetry. But soon the Doors' fame begins to spread--with Morrison as the focus of attention. Capable of an eerily correct vocal imitation of Morrison, Kilmer makes manifest the talent and charisma, as well as the confusion and despair, of the complex man who was the focal point of the group. As Morrisson's drug consumption and erratic behavior ...

$21.19 Jan Hrebejk's DIVIDED WE FALL, the Czech nominee for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2001 Academy Awards, tells the moving tale of a Czech couple attempting desperately to preserve their humanity while the Nazis take over their country and wage war on the rest of Europe. Bolek Polivka stars as Josef, a humble man helping the Jews pack up and leave before the Nazi invasion. He and his wife, Marie (the marvelous Anna Siskova), are in danger of drifting apart because they are unable to have children. Once the war begins and the Jews are shepherded out of their town and to Theresienstadt, Marie and Josef must obey the Gestapo's rules or else end up being arrested. They are visited almost daily by Horst (Jaroslav Ducek), who is quite taken with Marie while trying to lure Josef into collaborating the Nazis; to show his support for the new regime, Horst has even trimmed his mustache and combed his hair so that he closely resembles Hitler. When an escaped Jew (whose father Josef and Horst used to work for) shows ...
