Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Goldwyn - Dir:Jerry Zucker A murdered man has a final chance, as a ghost, to discover his murderer and say goodbye to his wife with the help of a phony pyschic. Shortly after moving into a new Manhattan apartment, a pair of lovers are separated by a street thug's bullet. Communicating through a frazzled false medium, the man's ghost tries to avenge his death and protect his girlfriend. Academy Award Nominations: 4, including Best Picture, Best Original Score. Academy Awards: 2, including Best (Original) Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress--Whoopi Goldberg. After renovating their expensive loft in the TriBeCa section of Manhattan, Molly (Demi Moore) and Sam (Patrick Swayze), a young successful yuppie couple, are walking home one evening when Sam is tragically gunned down by a street mugger. Molly goes into a deep depression, but, unknown to her, Sam has come back as a ghost in order to protect her from danger--although he isn't yet aware who or what means her harm, and he has a lot of learning to do in order to make himself known to her. He teams up with an unwilling psychic, Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg), and together they try to convince a very skeptical Molly that Sam was actually murdered and has returned spectrally to complete some unfinished business. Moore and Swayze and are excellent as the couple, and Goldberg won an Oscar for her portrayal of the wild and wacky psychic. GHOST is considered by many to be one of the most romantic films of the 1990s. Theatrical release: July 13, 1990.

Ghost Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Fast Delivery, VHS Quality First, loved the delivery time and email notification. It took just 2 days regular mail. The DVD I purchased has a VHS view, just a tiny bit grainy. The DVD view is not as crisp as I'm used to seeing, but for the price it's pretty good. I'll definetly order more DVDs from CD Universe in the future.

Not a Scary Movie This is not a scary movie but a kind of romantic adventure involving the ghost of the deceased husband( Swayze ). The storyline is predictable and the screen writer tried to make the movie interesting by infusing some humor, mostly surrounding the psychic( Goldberg ). Reasonable performances from the cast but Goldberg stole the limelight. Submitted by a reviewer (Phoenix, AZ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
I cry every time~! This is a GREAT love story- and there's something for everyone: murder mystery, action, a little comedy and a lot of romance. I cry at the end of the movie every time I watch it not just because it is a sad, yet gratifying ending but also because it makes you more aware of the things and people we take for granted in our daily lives. Excellent flick, definitely one of my favorites of all time! Submitted by mrsazaroff91705 (Findlay, OH USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Ghost film
$12.99 For his fourth directorial feature in the span of two years, Clint Eastwood tells the story of a grizzled Korean War vet's reluctant friendship with a Hmong teenage boy and his immigrant family. Set in contemporary Detroit, GRAN TORINO tackles the shifting cultural and economic landscape of not only the Motor City, but America as well. Eastwood stars as Walt Kowalski, an unabashed bigot who never heard a racial insult he didn't love. Bitter, haunted, and full of pride, Walt refuses to abandon the neighborhood he's lived in for decades despite its changing demographics as he clings desperately to a mindset long since out of step with the times. When his Hmong neighbor Thao tries to steal his prized muscle car as part of a gang initiation, Walt is forced to grapple with the world around him.
GRAN TORINO's approach to the complicated issue of race relations is equal parts Archie Bunker and CRASH. That is to say, there is nothing subtle about Walt's bigotry, yet his misanthropy knows no bounds, and Eastwood does a remarkable job of finding the humor in Walt's equal opportunity racism. More than simply a racial morality tale, however, GRAN TORINO is about the unlikely bonds that people form to navigate the subtle complexities every day life. Like MILLION DOLLAR BABY, GRAN TORINO explores the challenging yet rich new world that can open up when individuals let down their guard, even if for just a moment. Estranged from his family and his church, and without any sense of personal peace, Walt offers all that he has to Thao and his family, namely wisdom and protection. When tragedy strikes the family, Eastwood allows a little classic Harry Callahan to poke through, but the surprising finale posits a hero that Dirty Harry would never have the guts to be. It's a potent symbolic gesture to Eastwood's own growth as a storyteller.

At Christmas time, they bake 31 fruit-cakes which they give as Christmas present, even mailing them to President Roosevelt and Jean Harlowe! $6.55 With CROOKLYN, Spike Lee revisits through the eyes of a young girl the Brooklyn of his youth, resulting in an innocent, touching comedy about one summer in the life of a large family. The only sister in a family full of boys, Troy Carmichael (Zelda Harris) has to be strong, smart and quick with her fists if necessary. Although they argue more than they talk, the Carmichaels draw from a deep well of love for one another. Over the course of the summer, Troy weathers her parents' separation and reconciliation (characters played with deep sincerity by Alfre Woodard and Delroy Lindo), takes a wild visit to her cousin's in Virginia, and must learn to cope with personal tragedy when it strikes. Lee co-scripted the film with siblings Joie and Cinque--who claim that it isn't strictly autobiographical--yet CROOKLYN rings true with a nostalgia and detail that makes it feel like a home movie. Flexing his technical skills, Lee shot all of the Virginia scenes with a distorted lens to reflect Troy's confusion with her new surroundings. Featuring an onslaught of 1970s pop culture references and a seemingly endless pop music soundtrack, CROOKLYN yet remains a universal viewing experience.
