Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; Soundtrack Spanish Filmmaker Robert Townsend directs a tenderly tearful story about love, discrimination, and survival with HOLIDAY HEART. The movie stars Ving Rhames as the title character, Holiday--a church-loving, flamboyant gay drag queen with a heart of gold. After Holiday's long-time lover, Fisher (Benz Antoine), passes away, Holiday is left alone and grieving. So when a homeless drug addict, Wanda (Alfre Woodard), and her young daughter, Niki (Jessika Quynn Reynolds), unexpectantly fall in need of Holiday's help, he moves them into the apartment next door to his own. The three form an unconventional family. That is, until Wanda brings home a new boyfriend, drug dealer Silas (Mykelti Williamson), and changes everything for the worse. Wanda's inability to avoid drugs threatens to further break the trio apart and Niki suffers and she watches her dream of a normal, stable family life dissolve. Playwright Cheryl L. West adapted her original play, HOLIDAY HEART, into a screenplay for this original Showtime movie. Cable television release: December 10, 2000 (Showtime)
HOLIDAY HEART was filmed on location in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Robert Townsend has directed other films for Showtime including LOVE LETTERS and the documentary ROBERT TOWNSEND ON SEX IN THE 20TH CENTURY: FROM BEHIND CLOSED DOORS.
Robert DeNiro and his Tribeca Productions partners, Jane Rosenthal and Brad Epstein, were the executive producers of HOLIDAY HEART.
Cheryl West's play HOLIDAY HEART made its New York premiere at the Manhattan Theater Club.
HOLIDAY HEART is the film debut for young actress Jessika Quynn Reynolds. Alfre Woodard met Jessika when the girl was walking to class and helped arrange an audition for her for the role of Niki in the film. Jessika's twin sister was chosen to be her stand-in.
Alfre Woodard was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in HOLIDAY HEART. Holiday Heart Reviews: "...Rhames transcends his manly-man looks to develop a credible glam persona..."

| | Imitation Of Life DVD (1959) Widescreen; Subtitled
Holiday Heart DVD
$10.29 In Douglas Sirk's emotionally and visually extravagant final film IMITATION OF LIFE, a life's work of subverted melodrama and razor-sharp social commentary are brought to a resounding and baroque climax. In a role that closely resembles and perhaps parodies her own life, Lana Turner plays Lora Meredith, an aspiring actress and single mother who meets Annie Johnson (Juanita Moore), a black and similarly single and struggling mother. When they move in together, Annie assumes the role of domestic servant and the two women struggle together to raise their two daughters. Annie's daughter, Sarah Jane (Susan Kohner), favors her father whose skin tone resembles her own extremely light skin, and she slowly comes to resent her mother's black identity. Transcending the feminist labeling that IMITATION OF LIFE risked, the film freely mixes Meredith's rags to riches (with a hefty moral price tag) tale with Annie's scarring struggles to teach her daughter to accept her identity. As Meredith climbs higher and higher in her glamorous rise to stage and screen stardom, ...

| | M*A*S*H DVD (1970) Widescreen
Holiday Heart video
$10.29 With the release of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in 1970, a new form of comedy was born, one that would help to forever change the face of cinema. Altman's audacious film reflected the American counterculture's growing distrust of religion and government in the late 1960s and early 1970s, resulting in one of the biggest box office smashes of its time. Introducing the techniques he would employ throughout his storied career--overlapping dialogue, a constantly moving camera with a heavy amount of zooming, and a bold combination of frank subject matter with cynical humor--Altman immediately vaulted himself to Hollywood's upper ranks. Based on the novel by Richard Hooker, M*A*S*H follows a group of Mobile Army Surgical Hospital officers as they perform surgery and pass the time just miles from the front lines of the Korean conflict. Led by sardonic captains "Hawkeye" Pierce (Donald Sutherland) and "Trapper" John McIntyre (Elliott Gould), the film has the feel of an absurd three-ring circus. Other characters include the uptight nurse "Hot Lips" O'Houlihan (Sally Kellerman), the ...

$7.45 The plot of LACKAWANNA BLUES takes viewers back to a turbulent time for the African American community, all set to a soaring R&B soundtrack from an awesome selection of artists. Originally shot for HBO, LACKAWANNA BLUES is based on a one-man play by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, and is a moving coming-of-age tale. Drawing on his own experiences, Santiago-Hudson begins his story as a child growing up in the small New York town of Lackawanna. There, he is raised by Rachel "Nanny" Crosby (S. Epatha Merkerson), who provides a refuge for many wandering black folks whose lives have not quite turned out as they wished. Nanny and the residents educate Ruben in a way that no conventional schooling can provide, with the film lovingly ...

| | Harrison Ford Collection 3-Pack DVDs (2004) 3PK
Holiday Heart DVD
$21.59 This collection contains three films starring Harrison Ford. The Films include: FRANTIC, THE FUGITIVE, and PRESUMED INNOCENT.
An engaging thriller in the film-noir tradition of Alfred Hitchcock, Roman Polanksi's (REPULSION, ROSEMARY'S BABY) FRANTIC stars Harrison Ford as Richard Walker, an American Doctor attending a conference in Paris. When Walker's wife Sondra (Betty Buckley) mysteriously goes missing from the couple's hotel room, Walker goes to the police, desperate for answers. Offered little help from the cops, Walker embarks on his own investigation, aided by Michelle (Emmanuelle Seigner, Polanski's real-life wife), a carefree, seductive young woman who holds information about the case. Ford, cast somewhat against type, gives a credible, low-key performance as the anxious Walker, whose odd pairing with Michelle forms the dramatic basis for this highly stylized film.
A near-perfect thriller, THE FUGITIVE was adapted from the popular 1960s television series starring David Janssen. When renowned vascular surgeon Dr. Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford) is falsely accused and convicted of murdering his wife, he faces a life behind bars for a crime he didn't commit. But while being transported to prison, another convict stabs an inattentive guard, causing a massive wreck that enables Kimble's escape. As he is hunted by tough U.S. marshal Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones), Kimble must transform himself into a jack-of-all-trades and a man of a thousand faces in a desperate attempt to uncover the truth about his wife's murder and track down the real killer. Spectacular special effects and a pulse-pounding performance by Ford made this film a blockbuster hit, leading to a sequel, U.S. MARSHALS.
PRESUMED INNOCENT is a disturbing murder mystery told in the style director Alan J. Pakula (ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN) does ...
