Tribute to the horror genre The first time I saw this film, I kept asking myself, "Is that Willem Dafoe?" He and John Malkovich delivered tour-de-force performances in this film about the filming of a film, the surprise being that the actor, Max Schreck, hired by the director, Murnau, is a real vampire, not an actor. The lover of the horror genre will love this film. John Malkovich, as usual, gives an excellent performance, playing a director descending obsessively into madness in his zeal to complete the film. Willem Dafoe, however, was riveting and revealed his versatility and broad acting range as the evil Count Orlock. After all, Dafoe played Christ in Scorsese"s LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST. I would watch any film featuring either Dafoe or Makovich, and, in this case, I was definitly not disappointed. By chelovek1

Dud Normally I like any cheezy vampire movie but this one is/was so boring that I couldn't get to even the midway point of the movie. You expect awful acting in these movies but if the plot has a good pace...even if the plot stinks, you still watch it... this movie had bad plot, bad acting and no pace. I'll be trading this one at the local swap meet! If I could give this one a -10 I would. By javagirl329
