In the tradition of "Hoosiers," this triumphant, heartwarming film follows the hopes of a small farming community whose lives are transformed by a strange new game called basketball. When Martin Conlon (Coyote) arrives in a small town in the Pacific Northwest as America is reeling from World War I, he brings with him a message of love and teamwork. Conlon uses his position as a schoolteacher to introduce the game of basketball to the community. After a group of German refugees settle in the town, tensions mount. Conlon uses an approaching basketball game--between his students and a much older squad--to teach the town a very valuable lesson about unity and understanding. Basket Reviews: "...THE BASKET delivers in a gentle but purposeful way..."-- Mike Kerrigan, Box Office "...A modest yet beautiful film set amid the turmoil of World War I....It is full of a warmth that fills the heart..."

Basket Movie Review Wow what a movie. My wife and I loved "The basket". It is easy to relate to being outsiders a new environment with few friends and one loudmouthed bully as a neighbor.
The dust ridden schoolyard, the period clothing and the extra effort made in creating this movie brought to mind everything but the smells of the era.
We loved the narrations of Peter Coyote in teaching of Der Korb. And the way this opera was woven through the movie.
If there were a method of rating movies which reflected family values, taught relationship values, and were as uplifting as this one did I would support only those movie makers. Submitted by a reviewer (Orem,Utah,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Sherman's university has just been offered $150,000,000 for the radical new youth serum Sherman has developed. And the big-eating, trash-talking Klump clan (all played by Murphy) couldn't be happier. The only person who can ruin things now is Sherman's nemesis: his idlike alter ego, the smooth-talking, flashy dressing Buddy Love (also played by Murphy). In an attempt to destroy Buddy once and for all, Sherman manages to locate and extract the DNA strand that represents the last remaining trace of his own private Mr. Hyde. But the gene accidentally mutates with a strand of dog hair, giving birth to a brave new Buddy who sniffs out the Klumps. With the help of Academy Award-winning makeup wizard Rick Baker, Murphy magically disappears into multiple roles for uproarious results. NUTTY PROFESSOR II is a hilarious sequel to the 1996 remake.
