Standard Screen; Additional Footage; English Subtitles An epic tale of one of the greatest rulers of India, ASOKA is a testament to the redemptive power of love. Asoka inherited India's throne in third century B.C. The Indian dynasty was poised to conquer the entire peninsula and the king began his reign by leading the charge. However, the emperor found greater meaning in the love of two women and was soon transformed, renouncing warfare and adopting the principles of the Buddha. This 2001 Indian biopic of the peaceful leader is a work of great political and dramatic significance. Asoka Reviews: "...The cast is exemplary. Bollywood heart-throb Shah Rukh Khan is excellent....Enthralling..."
-- Rachel Dwyer, Sight and Sound "...A sprawling widescreen historical epic laced with Bollywood musical numbers, melodramatic romance, spectacular locations and violent battle scenes....Khan cuts a dashing figure as a soulful hunk..."

Asoka Movie Review Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) Best of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor's performances, along with an excellently written script, make Asoka the best Bollywood movie I've ever seen. The drama; music; choreography; and pagentry of this film, plus it's surprise climax, will pull at your heart strings like a master puppeteer.
This majestic epic is a must-see, especially for those unfamiliar with bollywood films. Submitted by natasha.small (Bowie, Maryland USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Waste of time! This is just another cheap entertainment from India which does not intend to define/redefine or depict the history of the times of Asoka nor does it contribute a bit to the Art of Cinema. total waste of time. Submitted by Divya (New Delhi, India) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
