Cary Grant, Charles Coburn, George Winslow, Ginger Rogers, Hugh Marlowe, Marilyn Monroe - Director: Howard Hawks After a chimpanzee gets loose in a pharmaceutical lab and randomly concocts a youth-restoring drug, staid scientist Dr. Barnaby Fulton unknowingly samples the potion and acquires the energy and tempement of a college student. An absent-minded professor stumbles across the "fountain of youth" when one of his lab chimps accidentally dumps a batch of chemicals into the water cooler. The resulting elixir revives youthful and reckless behavior in the professor, his bored wife and his co-workers. In MONKEY BUSINESS, Cary Grant discovers rejuvenation serum, which turns him, his wife (Ginger Rogers), his boss (Charles Coburn), and his secretary (Marilyn Monroe) into teenagers again. $10.29 Cary Grant and Tony Curtis star as naval officers in this service comedy, one of the director's favorite genres. When Adm. Matt Sherman's (Grant) submarine, the Sea Tiger, is damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor, he needs to find spare parts to have it recommissioned. Into the breach steps aide Lt. Nick Holden (Curtis), a master con man and wheeler-dealer who begins scheming to acquire the materials needed to fix the sub while the appalled Sherman looks the other way. Once the sub is deemed seaworthy, they stop at an island where Holden picks up a couple of Filipino families and five navy nurses who have been stranded there. The arrival of the extremely attractive nurses in the sub's cramped quarters has the predicted effect on the young, all-male crew, who soon find concentrating on their work to be an impossible task. The women also have their own ideas about the renovation of the submarine, one of which involves painting it pink. Despite the dated 1950s gender stereotypes, the comic genius of Grant and the energy of Curtis, in addition to a script witty enough to have been nominated for an Academy Award, keep the film afloat. Among the talented cast are Dick Sargent, Arthur ...

| | Day The Earth Stood Still DVD (1951)
Monkey Business movie DVD
$10.15 Beginning with a documentary style that immediately hooks the viewer, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, based on the Harry Bates short story "Farewell to the Master," becomes as much a human interest story as it does a sci-fi B-movie classic. The film soberly depicts the arrival of an alien dignitary, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), who has come to earth with his deadly robot, Gort (Lock Martin), to deliver the message that earthlings must stop warring among themselves--or else. After being shot at by ignorant, panicky military guards, Klaatu is brought to a Washington, D.C., hospital, where he begs a sympathetic but frank Major White (Robert Osterloh) to gather all the world's leaders so he can tell them more specifically what he has come 250 million miles to warn them about. Losing patience, Klaatu slips into the human world, adapting a false identity and living at a boarding house where he meets a smart woman with a conscience, Helen Benson (Patricia Neal), and her inquisitive son, Bobby (Billy Gray). Both mother and son soon find themselves embroiled in the complex mystery of Klaatu, his message, and the government's witch hunt for the alien. Made during the cold war--when Americans were obsessed with the destructive capabilities ...

| | Bee Gees - This Is Where I Came In: The Official Story Of The Bee Gees DVD (2001)
Monkey Business DVD
$12.59 Simultaneously lauded and dismissed, disco kings the Bee Gees have polarized pop audiences like very few bands before or after. Best known for their disco soundtrack to SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, especially the hit song "Stayin' Alive," the Brothers Gibb, in their Vegas-influenced white satin, tell their story here in their own words. A candid biography which is told through interviews, previously unseen home movies, archival footage, and behind-the-scenes clips, THIS IS WHERE I CAME ...

Monkey Business movie DVD
$7.89 CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL is not your typical teen romance. The film offers a grittier, more realistic take on the subject than most. It manages to be sweetly romantic without pandering to, or insulting, the intelligence of its intended audience. Director John Stockwell uses an unobtrusive, verité style to bring a strong script from debut screenwriters Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi to the screen. Stockwell began his film career as an actor (perhaps best known for playing the main character's best friend and protector in John Carpenter's CHRISTINE), and that experience is evident in his handling of the cast. The multifaceted Kirsten Dunst (BRING IT ON) plays the troubled Nicole, a rich girl whose self-destructive behavior stems from a traumatic experience in her past. Newcomer Jay Hernandez makes a strong impression as Carlos, a talented, intelligent, straight-laced Latino boy determined to succeed despite the obstacles life has thrown at him. When the two hook up, cultures clash. CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL has a rare freshness and authenticity, providing ...
