Based on Jane Anderson's play "Looking For Normal," this deeply moving drama tells the story of Roy (Tom Wilkinson), a small town Illinois man who makes a wild declaration after blacking out on his 25th wedding anniversary. Stunning his wife Irma (Jessica Lange), his kids, and the entire community, Roy announces that he's convinced he's a woman trapped in a man's body, and plans on going through with a sex change. What follows is a poignant, heartbreaking, and ultimately uplifting, story of Roy's attempt to live a normal life in a society that is unable to come to terms with his revelation. Writer/director Jane Anderson's extraordinary film features unforgettable performances by Wilkinson and Lang.

"Normal" is Outstanding The made for cable movie "Normal" is about a medical condition few people know about and probably fewer have heard of. It deals with the medical condition called Gender Dysphoria. The movie stars Tom Wilkinson in an Emmy award nomination role as Roy who has been married for 25 years to his wife Irma, played by Jessica Lange. On Roy and Irma’s 25 wedding anniversary Roy suddenly passes out. After he regains his consciousness Roy realizes he can no longer hide his secret he has kept to himself all his life. Shocking his wife and family, his minister, his friends and co-workers he announces he is a woman trapped in a mans body and decides to have a sex change. The trials and tribulations that follow for him are hard and he handles it a bit awkwardly at first but Roy begins an important journey to himself, his true self. Jessica Lange gives a purely wonderful performance as Irma struggling and finally accepting and then helping her husband with his transition. The movie is based on the play “Looking For Normal” by Jane Anderson. Anderson wrote the screenplay for the movie and directed it as well. No matter how much you may know or not know about Gender Dysphoria this movie will play to your heart and emotions.
