When an uptight executive (George Segal) discovers he has a long-lost black son (Denzel Washington), his tidy world goes hopelessly and hilariously awry in this wickedly funny comedy.
Denzel Washington makes his big screen acting debut in this biting social satire from Michael Schultz (CAR WASH, KRUSH GROOVE). Washington plays Roger Porter, the long-lost black son of "respectable" white businessman Walter Whitney. At first reluctant to accept Roger as his kin, Walter finally breaks down and admits to his snobbish and proper wife that he has a black child. As a result of his confession, he loses his place in society, his high-paying job and his Rolls Royce. Soon he is forced to find a new home and work as a manual laborer.
Film was originally rated R by the MPAA, but won a PG on appeal.
Denzel Washington's screen debut.
Shown at the Montreal World Film Festival (in competition) August 26, 1981.
