Shakatak's sound is as cool, sophisticated and uplifting as a sparkling cocktail. They were the leading lights of the British jazz-funk scene in the eighties. The band maintains a cult status with their catchy and relaxed music. They play an elegant, sophisticated and unashamedly laid-back type of jazz-funk similar to that made popular by American bands like Spyro Gyra, the famous Brecker Brothers and occasionally the Crusaders. Shakatak's elegant, sophisticated style put them at the head of the jazz/funk boom happening in the UK in the 1980s. Their sound is very catchy, laid-back, and cool with a great deal of pop appeal, yet the band are serious musicians, respected in the contemporary jazz scene for their ability to consistently keep their music innovative and new.
