Beast Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Classic Borowczyk My only problem with this comprehensive release is that the master used for the completely uncut version is a Dutch master with Dutch and English subs going on at the same time. The English subs already obscure the picture without the Dutch ones as well. Submitted by phil (Midlands, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

In Spanish (Espanol) LA HISTORIA
The Beast, La Bestia).
$21.43 Dan Brown’s novels are packed with fascinating historical tidbits which he ingeniously twists into plots that are so intricate and complex that there is a constant need to inform the reader with exposition, often leaving little room for character development. There is a bit of this stilted quality to ANGELS AND DEMONS, the second of Brown’s novels to be brought to the big screen by the tandem of Ron Howard and Tom Hanks, but more than enough intense action to keep the eyes of the audience as busy as their minds. The details of the plot are as diabolical as any in Hollywood history: after the pope’s death, a nefarious organization stashes an antimatter bomb somewhere in the Vatican, threatening to annihilate the conclave of cardinals who are meeting to elect the papal successor. To pass the time until the bomb will detonate, the enemy begins to torture and kill a few of the individual cardinals, but there is a pattern to the grotesque executions, involving hidden sculptural symbols and secret architectural clues. Unfortunately for the church, the man most capable of deciphering the code is the American "symbologist" Robert Langdon (Hanks), who happens to be an affirmed atheist. The script is filled with amazing details about the centuries-old conflict between the church and the Illuminati (whose ...

$21.45 THE NOTEBOOK's Nick Cassavetes directs another tearjerking literary adaptation with this drama based on Jodi Picoult's novel. Cameron Diaz takes a detour from comedy to play Sara, the domineering mother of Kate (Sofia Vassilieva, MEDIUM), a young girl with cancer. Sara’s other daughter, 11-year-old Anna (Abigail Breslin), was conceived just to serve as a donor for her sick sister. On the outskirts of the family are father Brian (Jason Patric), who feels unable to stand up to his wife’s strength, and son Jesse (Evan Ellingson), who craves attention in the face of Kate’s illness. But the complicated situation gets more difficult when Anna hires a lawyer (played by the always ...

$10.35 This World War II comedy stars Cary Grant in an uncharacteristic turn as Walter Eckland. Walter is an unshaven bum who inhabits a deserted island in the South Seas. Completely boozed up, unshaven, and badly dressed, Walter is a watcher for Japanese spy planes. An Australian Navy Commander, Frank Houghton (Trevor Howard) has pressed Walter, who once had his own cruiser at the beginning of the war, to become the sole occupant of a strategic watching station. It is into this world that smart and sexy Catherine Frenau (Leslie Caron) is drawn when Walter, en route in a dinghy to rescue another watcher, stumbles on to the schoolteacher and a flock of seven young girls. The girls have been marooned because their pilot was ordered to leave them to rescue the survivors of an abandoned bomber. Ralph Nelson directs shrewdly and keeps the comedy crisp as these eight survivors try to inhabit the same small island without driving each other crazy. The sharp witted Academy Award winning screenplay by Peter Stone and Frank Tarloff, is based on a story by S.H. ...
| | Rocky Horror Picture Show DVD (1975) Widescreen
Beast video
$10.29 THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW is a magical phenomenon unlike anything ever before seen onscreen. Borrowing largely from cinema's horror conventions, the film begins as an innocent young couple is stranded at the home of a mad scientist who is building the perfect man. The castle is filled with a most bizarre group of characters who worship their master, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, played magnificently by the fabulously sexy Tim Curry, in leather jacket, pearls, fishnet stockings, and heavy makeup. Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) are forced to examine their own sexuality as the voluptuous doctor releases the hidden desires in each of them.
Based on the stage musical by Richard O'Brien (who also appears in the film as Riff Raff), the film comes alive with unforgettable song-and-dance numbers that have come to represent the sexual liberation of the 1970s. The outstanding costuming and makeup, the terrific acting by a group of relative unknowns (Curry, O'Brien, Bostwick, Sarandon, Nell Campbell, Patricia Quinn, Meat Loaf), and the memorable songs ("Time Warp," "Sweet Transvestite") help make THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW one of the most bizarrely entertaining and satisfying musicals ...
| | Murphy's Romance DVD (1985) Widescreen
Beast film
$5.69 A charming, low-key romantic comedy, MURPHY'S ROMANCE is full of the small pleasures missing from other pictures of its genre. James Garner, in his first Oscar-nominated performance, is the title character, Murphy. Garner lends his unique, down-home persona to the character while the film's writers endow the character with some memorable lines. Murphy's romance begins when Emma (Field) arrives in the small Arizona town where he lives. With her she brings her son Jake, and a feisty attitude. Though this sounds like a set-up from any number of other film romances, it becomes clear from their first meeting that the director, Martin Ritt, is more interested in his carefully observed setting, and in the comic flirtations between Murphy and Emma flirtations, than in making a conventional picture. In fact, some of the film's strongest ...

| | Brother Sun, Sister Moon DVD (1973) Widescreen; Subtitled
Beast DVD
$10.49 Conceived and executed in much the same visual manner as his ultra-popular
ROMEO AND JULIET (1968), Franco Zeffirelli's BROTHER SUN SISTER MOON attempts to draw parallels between the work and philosophy of St. Francis
and the ideology that underpinned the worldwide hippie movement throughout
the 1960s and early '70s. Zeffirelli's signature lush photography and use of
real architecture and settings enhances the story of this great historical
figure, played by young British newcomer Graham Faulkner.
Francesco, the spoiled son of a wealthy merchant, renounces all his worldly
possessions to live a simple life as a man of God. Much to the dismay of the local bishop, he gradually gains a large following. The cinematography, editing, and a romantic soundtrack by the Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan, reinforce the healing and influential effect St. Francis had on his followers. The script contrasts Francis's piety and virtue with the bloated pomp of official Church doctrine, which is weighed down by internal politics. The film derives much of its strength from Faulkner as the young, battle-scarred nobleman laid low by his wartime experiences, ...
