Internal Affairs DVD  (1990) Widescreen

Catwoman video
DVD $7.09  5 stars
The plot of INTERNAL AFFAIRS is simple and familiar--good guy Raymond Avila (Andy Garcia) works for the internal affairs division of the LAPD and has to take down Dennis Peck (Richard Gere), a corrupt officer. The twist is that the film is really about social change in America. Gere plays Peck as an iconoclastic force of nature; he charms everyone he meets, runs the force by trading favors and protecting his own, and has eight kids with four wives. He sees himself as a throwback to an older notion of manhood and professional effectiveness. Avila, on the other hand, is a hero but also--as Peck calls him--a yuppie, seeking promotion in the internal affairs division and involved in a childless marriage with a successful museum curator (Nancy Travis). As Peck pushes Avila's buttons, the situation is further complicated by Avila's ...

GLORY recounts the bravery of a group of Civil War soldiers often overlooked by history--the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts, a troop of free black men who fought to help win liberty for their enslaved brothers. Based on the historical novels ONE GALLANT RUSH by Peter Burchand and LAY THIS LAUREL by Lincoln Kirstein and the letters of Robert Gould Shaw, the film follows the youthful Colonel Shaw (Matthew Broderick) as he takes responsibility for readying these soldiers for battle. Shaw, a privileged young Boston Brahman, finds the job harder than expected because many of the men balk at taking orders from him. Private Trip (Denzel Washington) is especially resistant to Shaw's leadership, but over time the two come to an understanding as they endure the hardships of the war. On July 18, 1863, Shaw volunteers the 54th for the honor of leading the charge against Ft. Wagner, a mission that means almost certain death, with Trip carrying the regiment's colors into battle. This gritty and realistic vision of the horrors of war is a moving and critical examination of a lost piece of history. Beautifully shot and triumphantly acted (by a cast that also includes Morgan Freeman, Cary Elwes, and Andre ...

Connie Sumner (Diane Lane) travels to New York City from the suburban home she shares with her husband Edward (Richard Gere) and young son Charlie (Erik Per Sullivan). It is a very windy day and, caught by a particularly savage gust, Connie falls and bumps into bookseller Paul Martel (Olivier Martinez) in the process. She scrapes her knees, and Paul invites her into his apartment. She stays only briefly, leaving after attending to her knees. She passes the accident off as trivial to Edward. But, she is drawn to the younger man and soon returns to his apartment with eventually disastrous results. UNFAITHFUL is based on Claude Chabrol's classic LA FEMME INFIDELE (1969). The drama has been shifted from Paris to New York City by scriptwriters Alvin Sargent and William Broyles Jr. Beautifully lit by director of photography Peter Biziou, UNFAITHFUL is staged with rare subtlety by director Adrian Lyne. Diane Lane gives an extraordinarily fine performance, viscerally conveying how torn Connie is between her attraction for Paul and her love for Edward and Charlie. There is excellent support from Gere, Martinez, Sullivan and Zeljko Ivanek. UNFAITHFUL is the rare case of a remake that measures up to, and maybe even surpasses, the original. Edward and Connie Summer (Richard Gere, Diane Lane) have the perfect life: a happy marriage, an ...

Japanese filmmaker Ko Nakahira's debut film CRAZED FRUIT (KURUTTA KAJITSU) sparked outrage and controversy when it was first released in 1956. Based on the sensational novel by Shintaro Ishihara (who much later in life was elected governor of Tokyo), CRAZED FRUIT chronicles the changing values and mores of the postwar generation of Japanese youth, dubbed the taiyozoku ("sun tribe"). During one eventful summer vacation, a pair of brothers whittle away their time drinking, gambling, boating, and chasing women. Like many postwar youth movements around the world, the Japanese teens were criticized for having supposedly loose morals and no goals, and CRAZED FRUIT was denounced for portraying and ...

Thoroughly enjoyed the film, action and cg were great and Halle Berry must have studied cat's for a while to get their mannerisms so well. A very good film and nice that there was not a lot of bad language or sex in it.

1 star Awful, words can't even describe it
So stupid it manages to get into place #2 on my top ten worst movies. I rented this because my sister wanted to see it. I hated it with a passion yet she liked it. There are major problems with this movie such as the acting which is terrible especially Halle Berry which is very surprising, the writing is at its worst, the direction is awful and it combines to give you a feast of the second worst movie ever (nothing will surpass BloodRayne). Awful movie is all i have left to say.

3 stars Not bad
Catwoman was surprisingly not bad. Everybody hates it but I thought it wasn't half bad. The fight scenes were amazing but wasn't the best superhero movie I've ever seen.
