Armed with Merrill’s cunning, Genie’s strength, and Melissa’s prayers, this all female band has no trouble raiding ancient ruins—unless a magic seal blocks the way. As an investment, the girls decide to hire a magician. Any magician. But ... Full Descriptionall the magicians prefer reading to raiding, except Louie. Swallowing their pride (and several pints), the girls take on the loud, brash novice. In return, the hapless Louie gives them all the adventure they can handle—and then some!Created by Ryo Mizuno (RECORD OF LODOSS WAR), the well-pedigreed anime television series RUNE SOLDIER injects a playful war between the sexes into its irreverent fantasy-comedy hybrid. Three superpowered women--martial artist Genie, priestess Melissa, and master thief Merrill--make their living raiding treasures from ancient ruins. When the trio set their sights on a ruin guarded by a magic seal, they decide to hire an experienced female magician but end up with a clumsy male novice named Louie. Saddled with this inept newcomer, the newly minted quartet embark on treasure-seeking adventures that dip into slapstick territory without losing any of their fantastical elements. Funny and action-packed, the anime series is presented in its entirety with this 24-episode collection. Rune Soldier - Complete Collection Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) D&D meets Anime Very good if you are a fan of either D&D or Fantasy Anime (or both!). Submitted by mxrllr (Missouri) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Series, Great Buy This series is great for lovers of silly fantasy. Based around a DnD ruleset, it's not hard to see which class the characters are (Except for louie himself, who I've said is "A Mage with 18 in Strength and 9 in Intellegence" XD) and they all act accordingly. The adventures and characters are much fun and you'll find yourself laughing quite often.
I say, if you have the money, buy it, even if it's against your will! XD Submitted by Tifalover88 (Oakford, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not deep, but a lot of fun So much High Fantasy takes itself awfully seriously. Rune Soldier does not. It's a little sexy and very funny while still working as an adventure story, showing that it's possible to play games with the standard fantasy tropes without doing the genere any real damage.
The hunky hero is so impulsive that he comes off as a clueless moron. His three female sidekicks are highly competent representatives of their archetypes, and give him no respect at all. His weaknesses and their strengths are so blindingly obvious that it's only over time we realize the women also have flaws, and the 'hero' actually has his good points, and makes a pretty good hero when it really counts.
This isn't the place to come looking for
great depth of meaning. But it's fun and it's funny and it's too fast-paced to ever drag and the commedic timing is
almost perfect. It's humor written by people who love fantasy, and do it no
harm. Buy it. You'll like it.
