This live concert features the group at its absolute best performing 9 tracks.
Sporting denim and buckskin, 1970s country-rock band Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show came to epitomize the era's laidback, feel-good style. Though their material was sung in a Dixie drawl and three members were genuine Southerners, Dr. Hook started out as a New Jersey bar band chosen to provide musical accompaniment for whimsical cartoonist/composer/poet Shel Silverstein. Led by one-eyed vocalist Ray Sawyer and main songwriter Denis Locorriere, the band went on to score further success with their own humor-laced compositions. This concert film captures Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show at their creative peak, performing live renditions of classic songs like "Sylvia's Mother," "Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball," and "The Cover of the Rolling Stone" with all their trademark bawdiness intact.

Havent seen it but don't have to to rate these guys When I first heard the song Silvias Mother the emotion that eminated from the voice of the singer touched the heart of a young boy in a romantic and vulnerable part of his growing years. I grew up in South Texas but had the opportunity to travel through the Gulf South in the 60's when I was very young. Traveling through the byous was always creapy and images of voodoo people was vivid in the song Marie Lavax. I've heard other versions but Dr. Hook is the only group in my mind who could sing that song and make me feel ms Lavax was real.
I had a chance to see these guys in San Antonio. I loved them. They sing as if they feel the words in the song and their music fits like a glove around each word.
I'm getting this DVD only because I want to keep the memories of their music where it belongs, in the back of my mind forever. I still play their music as I drive down the street singing "Four Years Older than Me". Of course she'd be pretty old by now. Submitted by Mr.Nasty (San Antonio) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
