After being wrongfully convicted of kidnapping and murdering a young child, a beautiful young woman (Lee Yeong-ae) is imprisoned for 13 years and forced to give up her own daughter. While in prison she gains the respect and loyalty of her fellow ... Full Descriptioncellmates, all the while plotting her vendetta on the man responsible (Oldboys Choi Min-Sik). Upon her release she sets in motion an elaborate plan of retribution, but what she discovers is a truth so horrifying, even revenge doesnt seem punishment enough.South Korean maestro Park Chan-wook concludes his Revenge Trilogy with the operatic, mesmerizing SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE. Unlike the first two films in the trilogy--SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE and OLDBOY--this time around, the hero is a heroine. On the heels of her release from prison, Lee Geum-ja (Lee Yeong-ae) embarks on a mission to track down the man responsible for her imprisonment, which also resulted in her being forced to give up her daughter for adoption. Hardened by years in the penitentiary and endlessly fantasizing about the right way to exact revenge, she enlists the help of former cellmates to accomplish her goal. But what she uncovers is a secret so horrifying that no revenge seems fitting.
Employing the same techniques (symphonic music, electrifying cinematography, sharp editing) that made OLDBOY such a thrilling cinematic experience, Park Chan-wook concludes his trilogy on a somber note. Beginning as a flashy, almost lighthearted spectacle, SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE gradually reveals itself to be a poignant commentary on the futility of revenge. Fortunately, the director's sheer audacity and technical virtuosity keeps it from succumbing to total darkness.

-- Jonathan Crocker, Total Film "Park is a gifted visual artist with a gift for defamiliarizing even the most prosaic scenes….His style influences performances as well, as the actors shift fluidly from naturalistic bluntness to uncanny expressionism..."-- Carina Chocano, Los Angeles Times "Misdeed besotted with violence is still the filmmaker's action of choice, and exquisite compositional audacity is still his thing." -- Grade: A-
-- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly "[T]he florid beauty of Park's tightly controlled, endlessly inventive mise en scene is imposing enough to paper over the cracks."

Lady Vengeance review
$17.49 The title refers to the night when three men, Randy (Matt Dillon), his cousin Carl (Paul Reiser) and Detective Dehling (John Goodman), all meet Jewel Valentine (Liv Tyler) at a bar called McCool's. Actually, they don't so much meet her as fall under her spell when they first lay eyes on her. In her clinging red dress she looks like a cross between a beautiful damsel in distress and the Lady In Red looking for John Dillinger. The story begins with Randy, desperate to be rid of Jewel, hiring a sleazy hitman, played by Michael Douglas in an outré toupee. His story of how Jewel lead him to ruin, filmed in a stylized flashback bathed in blue, is mirrored by Carl talking to his therapist--played with a delicious verve by Reba McEntire, and Detective Dehling talking with a priest; each telling their ...

$18.49 It would be a sin to reveal too much about this riveting and bizarre thriller from Korean director Chan Wook Park, except to say that it's about a man named Dae-Su (Choi Min-Sik) who is locked in a hotel room for 15 years without knowing his captor's motives. When he is finally released, Dae Su finds himself still trapped in a web of conspiracy and strangeness. His own quest for vengeance becomes tied in with romance when he falls for an attractive sushi chef (Gang Hye-Jung), who feeds him live octopus and who may or may not be involved with the bizarre mystery. This is all served up in a striking palette of purples and dark reds; oozing with post-neo-noir style, and stuffed with insanely malicious twists and turns. Choi Min-Sik is terrific in the lead, counterbalancing over-the-top hysterics with ...

$16.29 In 2004, filmmakers Ian Olds and Garrett Scott set out to create a truthful document of the American soldier's experience in Iraq by spending six weeks with the 82nd Airborne at their post in Falluja, where their mission is to improve relations with the locals while maintaining order in the city. Unbeknownst to any of them, the city would become the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the war mere weeks after filming was completed. Virtually living with the small platoon and accompanying them on patrols that see gunfire and explosions, Olds and Scott elicit some surprising opinions from their ...

Lady Vengeance Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Sympathy for Mr.Vengence is way better!!! Now Sympathy for Mr. vengeance was a bit hardcore, but this movie is straight gross, and totally in apropriate, and the only cool part was in the last twenty minutes.
To be honest there were part's in Mr. Vengeance,I didn't care for,but I thought that they had atleast a little point in the movie. This movie had a couple scenes that made me want to throw it in the trash, and I did.
Bottomline Sympathy for mr. vengeance is way better.I think this could of been a good movie, but all it takes is a couple horrible scene's to ruin a film, and this had them. Now if they came out with a cut up version that got rid of the gross part's I'd buy it... Great Though this movie isn't as good as his other film Oldboy, perfection is hard to duplicate, with Oldboy first, I liked Lady Vengeance second in Park Chan-Wook "Revenge Trilogy" Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, being third, but of coarse, still a good movie.
