$15.59 Blondie (Clint Eastwood) and Tuco (Eli Wallach) are gunmen who admire each other professionally but dislike each other personally. Encountering a group of dying soldiers, Tuco learns the location of the graveyard where a Confederate treasure is buried, while Blondie learns the identity of the exact grave. Joined by mercenary drifter Angel Eyes (Lee Van Cleef), they cross the desert, each of the desperadoes knowing half the secret and each focusing his squinty eyes on the $200,000 bounty.
In a classic that puts style above substance, Italian director Sergio Leone uses vivid Cinemascope imagery to depict a bleak ...

| | Gilberto Santa Rosa & Victor Manuelle - DOS Soneros...Una Historia DVD (2005)
Ruben Blades: Cali Concert DVD
$9.99 With their lively vocals and swinging arrangements, Puerto Rican singers Gilberto Santa Rosa and Victor Manuelle co-reign as the premier soneros of salsa music. While the elder Santa Rosa (known as "El Caballero de la Salsa," or "salsa's gentleman") discovered and mentored the younger Manuelle ("El Sonero de la Juventud," aka "the singer of youth"), the two friends never collaborated ...
| | El Cantante DVD (2007) Widescreen; DTS Sound
Ruben Blades: Cali Concert movie DVD
$8.79 Based on the life of salsa legend Hector Lavoe, director Leon Ichaso's EL CANTANTE, follows the beloved Puerto Rican performer (played by Marc Anthony) as he moves to New York City, and rises through the Bronx's vibrant Latin music scene during the 1960s and '70s. Singing with popular trombonist/bandleader Willie Colon (John Ortiz), Lavoe goes on to a successful solo career, but along the way, he becomes a drug addict, sabotaging not only his music, but his relationship with Puchi (a.k.a. Nilda Roman, portrayed by Jennifer Lopez).
Helmed by Ichaso (PINERO) with documentary-like realism, and carried by Anthony, who bears a striking (albeit thinner) resemblance to Lavoe, EL CANTANTE thoughtfully depicts the rise and fall of a remarkably talented vocalist unable to shake debilitating addiction. Husband and wife in real life, Anthony and Lopez reveal a convincing chemistry, and the movie bolsters the Puchi role to give J. Lo more screen time, an aesthetic decision than allows her gentle-yet-determined presence to play off of Anthony's troubled Lavoe. While off-stage drama receives its share of attention in EL CANTANTE, the film also wisely shines the spotlight on Lavoe's charismatic performances, which are captured with grace and gusto by Anthony, a beloved singer in his own right. For fans of Lavoe, Anthony, and Lopez, this labor-of-love project is a must-see biopic that depicts the joy of Latin music against an otherwise difficult backdrop.
In their dazzling first on-screen pairing, Jennifer Lopez ...
| | Jose Lugo Orchestra Guasabara CD (2008) With DVD
Ruben Blades: Cali Concert video
$12.95 If one thought that the big band flavor of salsa music was dead, GUASABARA is one album that refutes that theory. With a full band assembled in Puerto Rico, tracks like "Mambo Valentin" cross generational lines, bringing an old-school feel to contemporary salsa not heard in many years. Alto saxophones and intricate piano arrangements inject a classy jazz element into performances like "Amnesia" and "Me Voy De Aquí," making GUASABARA as good for listening as it is to dance to.
Bebop may have signaled the end of the swing era, but keyboardist/arranger/producer Jose Lugo is bringing it back with a vengeance. The big band Latino style created by Machito and his Afro-Cubans is something that ...
