Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Sensor Matic Leo McCarey's lighthearted romance combines with tragedy to tell the tale of two lovers who long to be together but are engaged to others. In this legendary tearjerker, the world's most eligible bachelor (Cary Grant) is set to marry an heiress. But unfortunately for his bride-to-be, while he's traveling alone on a luxury liner he meets Terry McKay (Deborah Kerr) and realizes he's engaged to the wrong woman--and she's engaged to the wrong man. They finally agree to spend six months apart; if they still love each other at the end of that time, they will reunite at the top of the Empire State Building. But the path of true love does not always run smooth, and tragedy threatens to tear the couple apart. Leo McCarey directed both the original (LOVE AFFAIR) and this remake, and viewers often amiably battle over which film is the more touching. This much-loved film features the Academy Award-nominated title song and a splendid supporting cast. AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER figures prominently in SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, in which the female characters watch it constantly, with tears in their eyes. (The men watch it uncomprehendingly and untouched.)
This version is a remake of McCarey's 1939 film LOVE AFFAIR. According to Richard Roud in his CINEMA: A CRITICAL DICTIONARY, McCarey preferred the first version because "Cary Grant's irony in the remake took away from the 'beauty' of the original." The film was remade again in 1994 with Warren Beatty and Annette Bening.
The film was shown on the American Movie Classics cable network in its original Widescreen format in February 1994. Affair To Remember Reviews: "AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER evolves effortlessly, almost invisibly, from light romantic comedy to a kind of spiritual drama, as the characters cast off their public identities and approach their essences..."-- Dave Kehr, New York Times 5 stars out of 5 -- "This is a classic, combining romance, drama, comedy and style....A love story, but one that touches the heart..."-- Ultimate DVD Staff, Ultimate DVD Affair To Remember | Studio | 20th Century Fox | | Orig Year | 1957 | | All Time Sales Rank | 37387 | | CD Universe Part number | 7713353 | | Catalog number | 2255139 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Sep 23, 2008 | | Rating | Not Rated | | Running Time | 119 Minutes | | Additional Info | Pink | | Movie Details | Color; Stereo Sound; Pink; Checkpoint; DVDs for the Cure Edition (Pink); Sensormatic |

5-Star Classic An Affair to Remember is by far one of the best classics of all time. A remake was made of this movie a few years ago; however, it couldn't touch this original with a ten foot pole. Every classic buff should have this movie as part of their collection. Over the years, I've seen this movie at least 12 times. Submitted by a reviewer (Washington DC) Was This Review Helpful? A WONDERFUL ENDING No sex, no violence, a wholesome, beautiful love story with a happy ending. I loved it! I own it, and now a friend asked for it as a Christmas gift. Submitted by Mary Ann (Princeton, NJ, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Affair To Remember movie DVD
$12.95 AUGUST RUSH is part romance, part gentle fantasy, but this sweet drama is all heart. When young cellist Lyla (Keri Russell) and rock musician Louis (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) meet at a party in the mid 1990s, it's love at first sight, and they spend the night in each other's arms. But Lyla's father forces them apart, even though she later learns she's pregnant. Later, an accident lands Lyla in the hospital, and though her father tells her that her baby died, the child survives and is given up for adoption. AUGUST RUSH jumps to the present and begins to follow Evan (Freddie Highmore), an 11 year old who has grown up in a boys' home. As Evan embarks on a crusade to find his parents, he imagines he can communicate with them through his gift for music. His journey to New York City brings him into contact with Wizard (Robin Williams), a man eager to capitalize on the child prodigy's talent. Wizard gives Evan the name August Rush as he begins performing all over the city, but the boy's ultimate goal is to find the parents he has never met.
From FINDING NEVERLAND to CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, Highmore has displayed an almost prodigious talent himself. He's a gifted young actor, and this emotional story is the perfect venue for his acting. AUGUST RUSH isn't a film for the cynics, but even the hard-hearted in the audience will have difficulty not being touched by this sentimental film. As in Evan's life, music plays a central role in AUGUST RUSH, and it's tough not to let your heart soar along with the melodies. Though it could draw comparisons to OLIVER! and ANNIE, this is a unique and heartwarming film.

Affair To Remember review
$20.79 In this dark French thriller directed by Olivier Assayas, Connie Nielsen (GLADIATOR) stars as Diane, an ambitious corporate climber. As Diane ruthlessly cuts down her rivals, she finds herself negotiating an important deal with the imposing Hervé Le Millinec (Charles Berling) and the producers of hi-tech, pornographic Japanese anime films. Eventually, her subversive business techniques lead her into the decadent and mysterious world of "The Hellfire Club," an interactive torture and S&M website. Can Diane maintain control of her increasingly shadowy and confusing situation? And can she continue to eliminate her opponents before they eliminate her?
With DEMONLOVER, Assayas has created a film that is immersed in the seedy and corporate elements of early 21st century pop culture--a world where big business, Japanese animation, and sex violently collide. Nielsen, who speaks fluent French, is compelling as Diane, an ice queen who refuses to allow any emotion to stand in her way. The cast is rounded out by the formidable Berling, Chloë Sevigny in a duplicitous role, and Gina Gershon as a trashy American counterpart to Diane. Alternatively atmospheric and jarring, Assayas' film is enhanced by Sonic Youth's cool, evocative score.

Affair To Remember DVD
$10.49 BEACH PARTY: An anthropologist (Cummings) and his lovely assistant travel to the wilds of Southern California's beaches to study the indigenous beach population. In their attempts to study the local population and observe customs and rituals, the two discover that the beach denizens aren't nearly so "wild" as science describes them. The first of the numerous Avalon/Funicello beach movies to depict the social scene of Southern California's beaches and their seemingly constant musical departures. It should be noted that Funicello and Avalon were not from California but Philadelphia, a town not known for its sand or surf.
BIKINI BEACH: Just about the last gasp of the classic 1960s beach movie, but features plenty of dancing, surfing and teen romance. Before they can play in the sun, Frankie, Annette and the gang must first deal with tough motorcycle hoods and unscrupulous land developers.
