$21.89 Bow begins to date one of them, but after a date at the speakeasy dumps him lest she corrupt him further and ruin his athletic career. Aubrey's big mouth wins him a wife (Lois Wilson) but can't put food on the table--or can it, after all? A very young Clark Gable can be glimpsed in several scenes as one of Prescott College's charismatic revelers. Clara Bow as a fast-living jazz baby with a heart of gold ignites the screen in "The Plastic Age" (1925, 73 min.), a raucous collegiate comedy of Prohibition-era youth. The legendary Louise Brooks plays a fetching girl-next-door whose friend's marriage to a ne'er-do-well spirals them into poverty in "The Show Off" (1926, 82 min.), a well-made Paramount film which continues to impress decades after its initial release. THE SHOW OFF: Silent-era icon Sterling inaugurates the role of boastful lout Aubrey Piper for the screen in this first adaptation of George Kelly's eponymous play. By the time senior year rolls around, Cynthia is ready to settle down, and once again the two roommates vie for her affections, with the crucial test being a championship football game.
A double feature, each starring an icon of the 1920s! THE PLASTIC AGE: The "It" girl plays Cynthia Day, a fickle flapper just entering college. There she meets two handsome athletes who spark her interest, and who also happen to be roommates.
