Not to be confused with the (male) British film director of the same name, whose breakthrough film was also called IF, the (female) singer-songwriter Lindsay Anderson is a Chicago native whose complex but delicate music occasionally recalls local contemporaries like the Sea and Cake or the Aluminum Group. However, Anderson also has a knack for strong melodies and catchy tunes that keeps IF from being simply a cerebral post-rock wash of sound.

When aggressive and violent music dominates the charts, gorgeous music like this often goes underground. Cameos abound here with friends adding cello, vibes, and accordion; there's also a little horn blowing from Isotope 217 and Chicago Underground Duo's Rob Mazurek. You could get drunk just listening to these gentle, understated phrases from guitars, voices, and keyboards (including L'Altra's trademark electric piano) which combine and swirl together like leaves in a pool of water.
"Little Chair" will stop you dead in your tracks and flood your bloodstream with endorphins. The lyrics mingle the abstract with the emotional. In one word, the music of L'Altra is beautiful.
