 Aphrodite's Child Biography
Aphrodite's Child CD discography One of the most popular bands in Greece in the late 1960s/early '70s, Artist was powered by the larger-than-life voice of Demis Roussos and the keyboard wizardry of Vangelis Papathanassiou. They started out as a psych-tinged pop group, scoring big in the '60s with such hits as the Bee Gees-like "Rain and Tears," but their 1971 album, 666, was a full-blown prog-rock concept album, a dazzling, wild ride that is one of the genre's milestones. By the time it was released, though, the band had already broken up, Roussos going on to become an internationally known pop singer, and Vangelis dropping the surname and embarking on a long, successful solo career that touched on electronic music, prog rock, New Age, and soundtracks.
