Since relocating from New Zealand to Australia a couple of years back Batrider have incited a long list of words describing a furious, contrary and slightly bitter group of misanthropes screaming and beating their way around the country. Batrider release their debut Australian album 'TARA', ten smouldering tracks that are equal measures of melancholy, fury and disappointed with the world. However, there are tones and colours in the melodies and songwriting more evident here than ever before, maybe even a smirking sense of optimism. And 'TARA' does not arrive alone. The first 500 copies of the album turn up holding hands with 'PINK GUITARS, YELLOW STARS', a delicate and entrancing acoustic mini-album, containing unreleased songs, and re-workings of existing gems. Batrider draw inspiration from bands who are honest and unerring in their own sound, giving respectful nods to The 3D's, early Cat Power, the song writing of John Lennon, Hole, The Stone Roses.. Singer Sarah Chadwick has been compared to both Patti Smith and to Nick Cave and lovers of The Scientists, Gun Club and The Birthday Party should take heed.
