His solo recordings have grown succesively more "conventional"-sounding, and HANGMAN'S HILL continues the trend, but an artist as deeply, wonderfully twisted as Blegvad could never be less than original. Though the music here is in a relatively straightforward pop-rock vein, Blegvad's strange, often macabre lyrical concerns and stylized, Dylanesque delivery make for an appealing blend of grit and gravy. From the fatalism of "Loss to Mourn" and the title cut to the barbed sociological observations of "Dog," Blegvad serves up some tasty food for thought.
