 Dramatics Biography
Formed in 1963 in Detroit, Michigan, the vocal soul group known as the Artist began as the Dynamics, releasing two singles under that name, before shifting personnel and changing their name in 1967. They scored a minor hit that year with "All Because of You." The Artist continued to record and change personnel, but didn't score another hit until 1971's "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get." "In the Rain" (1972) proved their biggest smash, making impressive showings on both the pop and R&B charts. Seemingly doomed to continual line-up changes, the Artist had a revolving door of singers, but recorded and performed throughout the `70s, landing hits "Hey You! Get Off My Mountain," and 1980's "Welcome Back Home." When founding member Ron Banks went solo in 1983, the group disbanded, but they reunite occasionally to perform.
