| Aquarius CDs (1998)
Munich jungle outfit Fauna Flash sounded a bit out of the loop, so to speak, on their debut album Aquarius. Unlike the producers in Britain's large and diverse jungle community, Germany doesn't have much of a drum'n'bass scene to call on for support, so Fauna Flash end up recycling ideas from established U.K. acts like Roni Size or L.T.J Bukem. The results are sometimes pleasant, but rarely compelling. ~ John Bush

| Confusion: The Fusion Remixes Vinyl LP (2002)
Fauna Flash albums. An expanded full-length version of a well-received single ("Vienna Mixes" by Peter Kruder and Stereotyp), Confusion isn't just a remix album -- it's an impeccably paced journey through dark, dubby downtempo featuring some of the best Austrian/German producers in action. It kicks off in excellent style with a lush remix of "Mother Nature" by (relatively) fresh faces dZihan + Khamien, then ranges through Stereotyp's harder, more minimal reworking of "Question," and on with the Kruder remix before reaching a denouement with the dub deconstructivism of Pole's "Ten." Surely Fauna Flash couldn't have been happier with the results, though perhaps a little sheepish that this remix album far outreached the original LP, Fusion. ~ John Bush |
