Balancing The Sun CD (2008)
 | | | |
Frobeck CD discography. If you've heard them featured live on West Coast Radio, you know their music is a charismatic blend of dynamic rhythms and inspired lyrics. Frobeck members Spencer Burrows (vocals), Steve Froberg (bass), Kris Dilbeck (guitar) and Cory Sti¼ck (drums) were all tremendous session players and back-up musicians before they met, but the real synergy happened the first time they played together...and the Bay Area music scene hasn't been the same since. "We just clicked on some amazing higher plain the first time we hit the stage together and it's been a wild and wonderful ride since," says Frobeck's vocalist, Burrows. "The best thing is that our audiences have been right there with us...it's like they know when you add the most incredible fans on the West Coast, we all become part of something very special. It's just a joy to play together right now and I think you'll hear that in our new CD."Individually, Frobeck members have played behind some of the top talents in the country, but collectively they have come together to create a new style all their own that fans can only describe as "contagious." Balancing the Sun was recorded in a very old school fashion using tools from some musics most beloved records. The album was recorded on 2" analog tape leaving arrangements and performances to be what they were at the time of the recording. Their new CD also features the wonderful Harrison Stafford and multi-talented Marcus Urani from Groundation. |

Frobeck music CDs. How it all started...
Together since 2005, Frobeck has been astonishing audiences throughout the Bay Area with their unique blend of Pop, Funk and Soul music, but their story begins much earlier. Each member of Frobeck brings their own vibe and talent to the band, and has made Frobeck a self contained entity in the music industry. Spencer Burrows has been a prominent figure in the Sonoma County music scene since the age of 13, and began performing in local clubs long before the law would allow. It was in this circuit where he first met bass extraordinaire Steve Froberg and their lifelong friendship was forged backing up folks like Eric Lindell and Levi Loyd. Throughout the following years, Spencer and Steve would share the stage with numerous acts, but not until Frobeck would they perform together as of one of the North Bay\'s premiere musical talents.
While Spencer and Steve were performing live, Kris Dilbeck and Cory Sti¼ck were staying busy in the Sonoma State University Music Department and recording studio. The duo was nearly inseparable as a production and engineering team, and during their time at SSU managed to track and record albums (Young Tree, Each One Teach One) for the industry's leading roots reggae band 'Groundation'. Cory was also playing drums in the local favorite funk trio 'Groove Instinct\', while Kris focused and worked as a studio player. Kris, Cory and Spencer met while attending Sonoma State University, yet their collaborative future together was unknown.
Following graduation from SSU, Kris went off to Berklee College of Music in Boston where he received a degree in Music Production and Engineering. Cory also furthered his skills and attended Ex'pression Center for New Media in Emeryville, CA, and graduated with distinction as one of the top students in his class. Kris and Spencer's relationship really began to blossom during Kris' sophomore year at Berklee, when Spencer appeared on the scene at Berklee to study Vocal Performance. Well aware of Spencer's musicality, Kris used Spencer on every record he engineered and produced at Berklee, and helped cement the foundation of Frobeck.
Upon Spencer's return from Boston, he was immediately recruited to join The Colin Blades Project where he toured the US for a short time. As that project dismantled itself, Spencer called upon Kris to form a band that would pull from influences such as Tower of Power and Sons of Champlin. Realizing that Spencer and Kris would front the new band, they needed to focus on a rhythm section that could stand in the same category as Garibaldi/Prestia or Benjamin/Jamerson. Spencer knew immediately who would fit the bill as the bassist, and as fortune would have it, Steve Froberg was in a transitional band period, which allowed an ... |
