Don Gibson Biography
Calling himself "a songwriter who sings" rather than vice versa, Country Hall of Famer Artist owns a legend based not only on his own aching renditions of his material but also for versions by a wide span of artists in country, rock, and beyond. "Sweet Dreams" (Patsy Cline, Roy Orbison), "I Can't Stop Loving You" (Kitty Wells, Van Morrison, Ray Charles), and "Oh Lonesome Me" (Neil Young, M. Ward) are among his most famous songs and each possess the Sad Poet's signature expansive despair. After a hot streak in the late '50s and early '60s, Gibson crested (with sporadic chart returns in the late '60s and early '70s), but remains one of Nashville's most esteemed artists.
