With ON FIRE, the Higher's 2007 debut for the Epitaph label, the Las Vegas-based band adds elements of pop and even contemporary R&B to its earlier emo sound. While some fans might be perplexed, the change suits the group well, allowing it to stand out from the overflowing punk-pop/emo crowd, particularly on "Weapons Wired," a catchy tune that oddly recalls Top 40 mainstay Rob Thomas, and "Insurance?"--a smooth, dance-oriented track.
