Playing as a duo in the Montpellier region in the south of France, the duo's repertoire reflected their shared passion for blues, gospel and New Orleans second-line rhythms. MPN was created in 1998 by co-founders Pierre Citerne and Jerôme Dusfour. Ranging from second-line rhythms to country 2-beats to funky gospel blues, MPN's signature sound of rich vocal harmonies and infectious grooves has made them a crowd favorite at many festivals throughout Europe. MPN debuted as a quartet with the addition of J.B. Vietri on washboard and David Melelli on washtub bass, developing a style rooted in the streets of New Orleans. Les Marvellous Pig Noise blend New Orleans grooves with southern tinged blues and gospel vocal harmonies. Staying true to the original project, MPN's repertoire consists of original material written by Citerne in both English and French and personalized arrangements of other standards. In 2005 the group became a quintet with the addition of American blues pianist Mike Lattrell, who had recently relocated to the Montpellier area from New York City. In 2003 the group evolved into a more electric sound after replacing the rhythm section with drummer Niko Sarran and bassist Marcel Muller.
