One of the premier bands of England's so-called Nu Rave scene of the early 2000s, Artist hit upon a sassy, infectious mix of synth-driven melodies, classic U.K. rave beats, and just enough guitar to keeps things edgy. Lead singer Tahita Bulmer vamps it up with a sultry yet detached style that firmly places her in the Debbie Harry school of female frontwomen. The band have proven to be darlings of the ever-fickle U.K. music press, and have developed a certain hipster cachet in the U.S. as well.
