| Decade Of The Brain CD (1998)
| | | | |
Quintaine Americana CD discography. Quintaine Americana's second release, Decade of the Brain, will appeal to fans of pissed-off, disturbed alterna-metal (Jesus Lizard, Helmet, etc.). The trio is an aggressive live act, and with the help of producer Bob Weston, the fury is transferred successfully onto disc. Melding together the fat riffing of the Melvins with the arty approach of Tool (guitarist/vocalist Robert Earl Dixon sounds like Maynard James Keenan at times), the band creates an impressive, industrial-sized sound. Most of their tracks start off with slow, crawling bass and/or drums, and sooner or later, heavy guitar slams in. Tracks such as the leadoff "Black Car," "Old Tricks Again," and "Burn" are all short, elastic, loopy rock; "Swan Dive Into a Lake of Fire" and "Lucky Town, You Are No Longer Safe" are long and excruciatingly moody. ~ Greg Prato
