| Ultimate Escape CD (2002)
Tsunami Bomb has shortened the fuse for its first full-length on Kung Fu, hacking off the keyboards that marred 2001's Invasion from Within and concentrating instead on uncoiling Agent M's explosive vocal presence over an album's worth of boisterous brass-knuckles ... |

Tsunami Bomb music CDs. Tsunami Bomb's first CD release is a strong set showcasing the Cali combo's energetic mix of Green Day-style pop-punk with twinges of third wave ska. It hits harder than you might imagine, mostly because of Agent M's dynamite, domineering vocals and songwriting that's of a recognizable style without being utterly derivative (the title track and the spazzy "No Good Very Bad Day" are standouts). Invasion from Within's only real drawback is the prominent and persistent use of organ and synthesizer. While it works as a setup for the histrionic title cut, the sound also aligns Tsunami Bomb with bands like Save Ferris or any number of the ska-punk acts to climb out of the Bay Area in the mid-'90s. This is a little bit disappointing, because it's obvious that Tsunami has much more to offer in the punk and power departments than this characterization would suggest. Luckily, M and her mates prove tenacious, and overall they muster more than enough mayhem to shuttle the synth work to the background. ~ Johnny Loftus
