| Bobby Valentino CD Special Occasion CD (2007)
$12.39 After conquering the airwaves in 2005 with his smash hit "Slow Down," Disturbing Tha Peace-affiliated R&B singer Bobby Valentino returns with his sophomore album for the revamped Motown imprint, SPECIAL OCCASION. Featuring production work from a cast of hitmakers that includes Timbaland, Dre & Vidal, Don Vito, Tim & Bob, Sean Garrett, and Rodney Jerkins, SPECIAL OCCASION has its share of both sultry slow-jams and catchy club bangers. Ludacris and Fabolous drop guest verses as well.

| Bobby Valentino CD Bobby Valentino CD (2005)
$12.39 Soul man Bobby Valentino, the first R&B star on Ludacris's Disturbing Tha Peace label, may have seemed an overnight success when his hit "Slow Down" rocketed up the charts in 2005. However, there is a reason Valentino's self-titled album sounds more richly honed than most debuts. Like Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, and other R&B artists whose breakout records revealed a deeper history, Bobby Valentino knocked around the music world for years (primarily as member of the 1990s vocal group Mista) before Ludacris signed the Mississippi-born singer.
The experience pays off for Valentino on a record that frequently travels outside of standard R&B territory, as his capable voice occupies smooth compositions, with both passion and restraint. The catchy single "Slow Down" opens on an orchestral hook, before gliding into an ode that pulls off the feat of being both leering and courtly. "Never Lonely" features distorted, quirky stops and starts, but its strongest characteristic is its winsome melody. By the time "My Angel (Never Leave You)" comes around, Valentino has fully seduced the listener with his satisfying and sultry debut.
Personnel: Bobby Valentino (vocals); Kalenna Harper (vocals); Tim Kelley (various instruments, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, drum programming); Annan Grause (guitar); Bob Robinson (12-string guitar, piano, keyboards); Gary Smith (drum programming); Kevin "KD" Davis, Ludacris.
Recording information: 2005.

| Bobby Valentino music appears on Ludacris CD Release Therapy CD (2006)
$13.39 Recording information: Soapbox Studio, Atlanta, Georgia (2006).
"Never scared to be different," as he puts it, Ludacris didn't need a deal to make a name for himself. He was already a homegrown star in the ATL--selling his self-produced, independent first album straight out of his trunk--before he got put on. But when he did get called up to the majors, he did it in a big way. As the first artist signed to Def Jam South, under the tutelage of Scarface, Luda effortlessly dropped hit after hit, including memorable collaborations with Nate Dogg, Pharrell, and Mystikal. Four major label LPs and a string of acting roles later, Ludacris returns with his fifth Def Jam effort, RELEASE THERAPY, which carries more than a few potential club anthems (most notably the Pharrel-produced banger "Money Maker") and asserts his spot among commercial hip-hop's top dogs. The guest-list features rap cameos from Young Jeezy, Field Mob, and Beanie Siegel, radio-friendly R&B hooks from R. Kelly, Bobby Valentine, and Mary J. Blige, and an MC's dream line-up of hitmakin' producers that includes Kanye West, Pharrell, Jermaine Dupri, and Rick Rubin.

| Artist appears on Notorious B.I.G. LP Duets: The Final Chapter Vinyl LP (2005)
$15.29 It is difficult to overcome the suspicion that DUETS: THE FINAL CHAPTER, the Notorious B.I.G.'s second posthumous "studio" release, is a blatant case of opportunism. The late rapper's legend towers so hugely over the hip-hop landscape, and his name has taken on such iconic grandeur, that it's absurdly easy to cash in on his musical legacy. DUETS recycles unused Biggie material, looping it artfully along with performances by some of the finest MCs and vocalists in the hip-hop and R&B community. Since Biggie's parts are sometimes minimal, however, those looking for a disc full of new music from the late icon may be disappointed. Still, the album is an affecting listen, which is largely due to the spectacular assembly of talent. With a roster that includes the likes of Missy Elliott, R. Kelly, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Eminem, Nas, Mary J. Blige, and Biggie's widow, Faith Evans, among many, many others, DUETS works nicely as a tribute and a testament to Biggie's influence on the evolution of hip-hop. As much a cultural artifact as a music release, DUETS will appeal to hardcore Biggie fans and, in general, ...
