| | White Willow Signal To Noise CD (2006)
$14.29 As time passed, however, the Norwegian outfit came to be considered more of a progressive rock outfit. The album was recorded in three weeks, in contrast to their usual one-year-of-recording policy. The band foregoes some of the hard rock elements of the previous record,
At first, White Willow had a reputation for providing folk-rock. This is reflected in a leaner, more band-oriented sound, and more focused songwriting. Track listing is as follows: Night Surf, Splinters, Ghosts, Joyride, The Lingering, The Dark Road, Chrome Dawn, Dusk City, Ararat. Brynjar Dambo, who played keyboards on 'Sacrament', guests on one track. But to categorize their fifth album, Signal to Noise, as strictly prog rock doesn't quite do them justice; actually, what makes this CD intriguing is the way they combine progressive rock and goth rock -- specifically, the style of goth rock that is known as "ethereal underground" or "ethereal goth." Some have described that type of goth as "shoegazer goth" because of its similarity to the shoegazer/dream pop style (as in My Bloody Valentine, the Cocteau Twins, the Cardigans, Medicine and early Lush). The line-up features Trude Eidtang (vocals), Lars Fredrik Fr'islie (keyboards, electronics), Jacob Holm-Lupo (guitars), Ketil Vestrum Einarsen (woodwinds), Marthe Berger Walthinsen (bass guitar) and Aage Moltke Schou (drums, percussion). Cover art is by Killustrations, who also did the 'Storm Season' cover. White Willow's fifth studio album, 'Signal to Noise', album was recorded at Jailhouse Studios in Denmark, and was mixed and produced by legendary producer Tommy Hansen (Helloween, TNT, Pagan's Mind, Circus Maximus). And Signal to Noise definitely has an ethereal quality -- ethereal and enchanting as well as moody, darkly poetic and melancholy.
