Katie Webster - I Know That's Right CD

 The Queen of Swamp Music.
Katy is at peak form with her signature and title tune "I Know That's Right." She is even better at teaching us about the guts of R&B with her famous "Jimmy Jimmy" that follows. Overall, the CD is a surprisingly positive listening experience. All Swamp music means to me is that ever so special Louisiana take on R&B. Webster died around age 59. I heard her in 1995 or was it 1994 or '96 at the Grant Park Blues Festival in Chicago where she played for several hundred thousand blues fans from around the world. I heard no complaints. My own, when it comes to buying her albums is that her music simply never came across as good as it does here even when she is at her best. And, she is always solid on that boogie-woogie piano. It probably deserves 3 or 3-1/2 stars, but the song "Jimmy Jimmy" alone makes it worthwhile. One of Arhoolie, Chris Strachwitz's fine production efforts. My compliments to CDuniverse that Arhoolie didn't have it but I found it here. Another great R&B artist who was in life, and is still all too obscure. Lovers of the genre ought to pick this one up.
