Soft Machine - 'Volumes 1&2' (Big Beat)
Another nice 2-lp's-on-one CD reissue. One of the few Soft Machine titles I actually like, enough to have a copy of anyway.A couple of memorable cuts here are the tripping "Why Am I So Short?",their anthem-like "Save Yourself" and their tribute to Hendrix(because they toured as support act for him, prior to his passing)"Have You Ever Bean Green?".Top of it's genre Canterbury/jazz art rock.Should appeal to fans of Egg,Caravan,Henry Cow and some followers of Gong perhaps.A should-have.

The Soft Machine Trip
Soft Machine 1 is a little bit "unfinished" and a little confusing
but this is far outweighed by no.2,which
is a classic in jazz/rock-fusion. I haven't listened to it since 1972 but it
was still as fresh and engaging as I hoped to remember it. It is a MUST.

Intrepid Trips Unltd.
Volume 2 is a medley of profound psychedelic proportions courtesy of Daevid Allen. If you love Allen's Gong you will stagger and bow before the genius of (t)his 1969! Soft Machine

Un sonido interesante
Un sonido interesante, un descubrimiento de las raices del principal grupo de avant rock del sesenta y setenta.
Debe ser visto como un referente para entender una de las épocas más fecundas del rock como proyecto de arte.

Flawed classics
It took me a few listens to get used to the ever changing tempos and tunes of the Softs but once I did it was well worth the effort. Soft Machine 1 is a superbly and highly overlooked album featuring some great rock / jazz improvisation ("So Boot If At All" "Priscilla") and some wonderful moments of psychedelic pop/rock ("Lullaby Letter" "Save Yourself"). Veering from pop to jazz to rock and to prog in the space of seconds, this album is a classic view of the sixties, and a testament to the great band.
