(6 Customer Reviews)
The first post-Scott La Rock BDP release, BY ALL MEANS NECESSARY is a fitting testament to KRS-1's former partner. With his brother Kenny Parker and D-Nice taking over the musical backdrop, samples ran from familiar funk to the heavy rock of Deep Purple. KRS-1 was again in supreme form, boasting a more sharply politicized edge, indicated by the cover image of the artist holding an Uzi in homage to the familiar Malcolm X image. Most pleasing of all was "Stop The Violence," a call to inner city youth to stop destroying themselves, which rapidly became a movement.

By All Means Necessary album
$7.59 In getting back to his roots, KRS-One has created a small masterpiece. GHETTO MUSIC is a successful blend of the various forms of music that inform hip-hop. Its samples successfully incorporate dub, soul, funk, jazz, and gospel elements into the musical anthropology of the hip-hop era. The rhythms are steady and the grooves fresh and organic; the lyrics are purposefully introspective and delve into both social and musical approaches to understanding the hip-hop phenomenon.
Perhaps the most sophisticated of KRS-One's ...

By All Means Necessary music CDs
$12.99 This is the defining album of East Coast crime rap, which was largely established by the Brooklyn-based Boot Camp Clik of MCs. ENTA DA STAGE is a classic in its genre, featuring deep-in-the-crates beats by DJ Evil Dee (who continues to have a presence in New York's underground hip-hop scene), lurid street imagery delivered by MCs Buckshot and 5T and a flavor forever reminiscent of early-'90s New York.
As much a social phenomenon as a congregation of MCs and DJs, the Boot Camp Clik spawned Smif-N-Wesson (who later changed their name to Cocoa Brovaz after the arms manufacturer commenced litigation), Heltah Skeltah and the Originoo Gunn Clappaz. ENTA DA STAGE contains the classics "Who's ...
| | Great Adventures Of Slick Rick CD (1988)
By All Means Necessary songs
$7.79 In the history of rap music, there are few artists who can be labeled as pioneers. One such artist is Slick Rick who, along with partner Doug E. Fresh, is the rapper responsible for such long-standing hip-hop classics as "The Show" and "La Di Da Di." With the special rhythmic flow of his accented vocals (he was born and raised in England) and powerful, innovative production, THE GREAT ADVENTURES OF SLICK RICK further led Rick Walters down the road of quick, massive fame and sealed his reputation as a master MC.
At the time of this solo debut, Slick Rick's personalized style was ground-breaking. The first single, "Children's Story," crowned Rick the king of rap's storytellers. He was able to turn the truthful ...

By All Means Necessary songs
$15.35 A journeywoman singer in the West Coast 1950s R&B/jump blues style, Mickey Champion wasn't able to get a hit over the course of a career that saw her do time with numerous notable indie labels, including Modern, Aladdin, Dootone, and King. This 24-track compilation mainly spans the sides she cut for those companies in the early to mid-'50s, also including a couple duets with Roy Milton; cuts on which she sang by the Nic-Nacs and Jimmy Witherspoon; and five previously ...
