| | Bob James Joined At The Hip CD (1996)
Best Of Jonathan Butler CD music
$9.55 JOINED AT THE HIP was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance.
JOINED AT THE HIP features Bob James and saxophonist Kirk Whalum as a team. After several appearance on one another's solo efforts, James and Whalum realized that they had similar playing styles, and as James said, "were eager to explore that compatibility in a pressure-free environment, [while] keeping everything loose and fun." Given that attitude, the album manages to break away from some of the stylistic parameters typically found on contemporary jazz albums.
Whalum stretches out and lets the opening track, "Soweto," build over ten minutes. "Kickin' Back" is James' most spontaneous moment on the album, offering a laid-back and spirited jam. In addition to fine performances by James and Whalum, other fine musicians appear on the album. Guitarist Jeff Golub is particularly sharp, displaying his talents both as a rock and jazz musician on the romantic late-night tune "Tell Me Something Nice." A cover of ...

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Best Of Jonathan Butler album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's also a lovely rendition of ...

| | Patrick Saussois Saussois,Patrick Vol. 2-Almi Sinti ( Rythmes Gitans) CD (2004) (Import) France
Best Of Jonathan Butler songs
$22.89 Patrick Saussois presents his French import release ALMI SINTI VOL. TWO.
In Patrick Saussois own words:I stand at the forefront of Jazz Manouche. As a musician he is one of the few able to navigate between styles and genres, whether it's playing bebop with Richie Cole, musette with Jo Privat or jazz Manouche with my own band, Alma Sinti, never letting one style bleed into the other and always maintaining my own identity. It is with the latter group that I has risen above the rest of my contemporaries. Alma Sinti uses Jazz Manouche as a base to incorporate swing, Latin, bop and valse Manouche and musette all without losing their unique guitar/accordion driven sound and all supported with “le pompe”, the Manouche style of rhythm guitar that gives the music its unique flavor. A gifted and prolific composer and improviser par excellence whose originals “Jojo Swing” and “Just One for Babik” have become standards in the jazz Manouche lexicon. I am at the top of a very short list of Jazz Manouche's most important and respected players. My record company, Djaz Records has released a slew of acclaimed CD's highlighting some of today's finest artists including Dorado and Tchavolo Schmitt and Dino Mehrstein. They swing- three guitarists, acoustic bassist, and button accordionist - offer a heady mix of tzigane (music in the gypsy style), musette (post-1910, accordion-driven music played for public balls), and jazz associated with Belgian gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt , Stephan Grappelli and the Quintette du Hot Club de France during the '30s and '40s. I am perhaps best known for my work with accordionists, having in the past accompanied the late great accordion legend Jo Privat ...

| | Musiq Soulchild Luvanmusiq CD (2007)
Best Of Jonathan Butler album
$15.65 Musiq--formerly Musiq Soulchild--is one of the foremost figures in the neo-soul movement, as he deftly blends hip-hop-infused production and gangsta-lite loverman braggadocio with a vintage soul-funk feel that's scarce in contemporary R&B. Even when LUVANMUSIQ hits a club-bangin' apex, the classic grooves of his native Philadelphia are never far behind, as best heard on the album's debut ...
