It's more than just journalistic shorthand to refer to Kylie Minogue as the European Madonna. She's been at it as long as the Material Girl, and her mix of sexy style and dance-pop sound is very much in league with that of her American counterpart. The catch here is that, while Minogue had previously only been a star in Europe, FEVER represents her American breakthrough. Not surprisingly, the sound of FEVER will appeal to fans of Madonna's MUSIC album. It's full of bubbly synths, amiably poppy melodies, club beats and sensual vocal stylings. If anything, Minogue comes off as slightly less hard-edged than you-know-who, more concerned with immersing herself in the songs and production than in projecting her larger-than-life personality. That kind of attitude ...
| | Leann Rimes Twisted Angel CD (2002)
Still On The Road music CDs
$6.39 TWISTED ANGEL shows just how far the newly adult vocalist has come from her teenage-prodigy beginnings. For one thing, she seems determined to leave her country roots far behind. Though she started down the pop route as early as 1997's YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE, TWISTED ANGEL is completely devoid of any country inflection whatsoever, focusing instead (as have a couple of Rimes's previous efforts, to varying degrees) on modern, often even danceable, pop. Rimes may be closer to Britney Spears than to Kitty Wells these days, but she seems to be expressing more of her inner self. It's surely no coincidence that three of the four songs on which she gets co-writing credit utilize the imagery of the angel with dirty wings, the child star with tears behind the smile. Lyrically, Rimes is clearly exploring the conflicts and contradictions that her childhood fame brought her, which may or may not take her higher up the pop charts, but can only be a positive artistic step for a still-young singer.
LeAnn steps into a new Pop dimension with songs produced by such luminaries as Desmond Child (Life Goes On), Peter Amato (of Baha Men fame) and Gregg Pagani (Canada's #LW). Includes the hit single 'Life Goes On'. Curb Records. 2002.
Personnel includes: LeeAnn Rimes (vocals); David Campbell (arranger, conductor); Peter Amato, Gregg Pagani (arranger, keyboards, programming); ...
| | Barbra Streisand Duets CD (2002) Remastered
Still On The Road songs
$8.29 DUETS is a compilation of duets and contains a new duet recording with Barry Manilow, "I Won't Be The One Let Go".
Barbra Streisand's long and varied career is the stuff of legend, as the actress/director/songstress consistently takes chances, never content to rest on her laurels. DUETS, a collection of her collaborations, reflects this wide-sweeping talent, amassing tracks from every facet of Streisand's career. DUETS includes partnerships with stars of pop, country, soul, disco, rock, songwriters of a bygone era, and stars of Broadway and opera. It boasts a track from probably the most famous record to bear the same title (Frank Sinatra's DUETS), a live duet with Dorothy herself culled from a 1963 episode of the Judy Garland Show, and the underappreciated mellow-cool "Guilty" with Bee Gee Barry Gibb.
Number One hits with Neil Diamond and Donna Summer sit alongside less remembered alliances with Celine Dion and Kim Carnes. There's even a track on which Barbra doubles up with herself. Most importantly to fans and collectors alike, DUETS features two new tracks, a fetching, modern Disney-esque torch song with Barry Manilow ...
| | Rosemary Clooney Last Concert CD (2002)
Still On The Road album
$9.45 THE LAST CONCERT was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
There's an energetic version of "Old Man River" that positively crackles with excitement, and a poignant tribute to Frank Sinatra in "The Singer," composed by Clooney's drummer, Joe Cocuzzo, followed by an equally moving version of George Gershwin's "They Can't Take That Away From Me." But though THE LAST CONCERT was recorded just a couple of months after 9/11 ("God Bless America" is an affecting finale), and Clooney was to succumb to cancer seven months later, there's no sense of pathos here. Rather, one gets the lasting impression that singer, band, and audience are simply having the time of their lives.
Her only live concert recording ever! Features her ...
