SHORT MUSIC FOR SHORT PEOPLE features 101 different punk bands performing 30-second songs.
Not that this hasn't been done before on albums like Wood Panel Pacer Wagon With Mags and Bllllaaarrrrrggghhh!-A Music War (which was on a 7" format no less), but that doesn't mean a compilation featuring over 100 bands on one record never fails to entertain. And the advantage Short Music for Short People has in comparison to the aforementioned records is that 80 percent of the bands on here fall under the "melodic pop-punk" classification. That and all the punk rock superstars can be found on here: Rancid, Black Flag, NOFX, Bad Religion, the Descendants, D.O.A., Less Than Jake, the Offspring, Green Day, Blink 182, the Misfits, the Circle Jerks, the list goes on and on. Whether or not the marketing department at Fat Wreck Chords thought that the big names would attract more buyers, keep in mind that every song on here is only 30 seconds and under. But even if Short Music for Short People isn't the best representation of all the bands on here, the fun factor is still pretty high. Other highlights include Lagwagon, Spazz, the Muffs, Nomeansno, Avail, the Criminals, Adrenaline O.D., and Wizo. Best song title award goes to "Farts are Jazz to Assholes" courtesy of the Dillinger Four. ~ Mike DaRonco

My god... Fat Mike is a genius!
I first heard this album playing over the PA system in the local record store where I live, so, naturally, I was curious as to what it was, and therefore, I grabbed it.
Let me just say this: my money was well spent. It has something for everyone. There are songs for the general punk fans (Black Flag, the Dammned), songs for those who want to laugh (H20, blink-182) songs for those who don't (Bad Religion) and even songs for pyromaniacs (the Offspring). Although musically repetitive after awhile, it tends to grow on you.
However, there should be a warning on the album cover: don't plan on doing anything after listening to this album because you're attention span will be shot!

i saw this CD on ebay n i bought it purely due to the fact that tracks by NOFX, rancid, less than jake, the descendents, green day and the vandals are on this compilation. there aint a song on this CD that i dont like - fat mike is a genius!!
lookin forward to more kick-ass ideas from the punk mastermind!!

Fat Mikes brain child is hort music for short people. It is 30 minutes of pure punk. Easily the best Fat sampler ever. It'll take alot out of you first time you listen to it through but it's worth it. Its full of suprises and the constant changing every 30 seconds is enough to make anyone like punk. The first track sums up the whole album. Makes 'normal' songs sound too long. A worthy addition to any CD collection.

I normally dislike punk music. Lord knows, I'd like to like it. The lyrics, when I can read them on lyric sheets, are often witty and insightful. It's just that the in music is too darn noisy and loud and confusing. If I listen for too long, I get a headache.
This CD, however, is wonderful. 30 seconds is the perfect length for punk songs. Even my parents like this, and they're a combined 100 years old.
