13th Floor Elevators - Bull Of The Woods CD

 Not as good as the first two
This album, the Elevators third and final album,lacks the depth and vision of their first two albums. The guitar work still retains that psychedelic sound on most of the songs but the vocals aren't quite up to par and the band decided to ditch the electric jug on this record which gave them their signature sound and set them apart from every other band. I think Roky Erickson possessed a better voice than Stacy Sutherland and was a better songwriter. It was unfortunate that Erickson suffered a mental breakdown and did not contribute much to this album. Its a decent album but it just lacks the originality and substance that Easter Everywhere has. Still, this album is worth owning if you are a fan of that freaky deaky psychedelic sound.
