| | Nigel Olsson Golden Classics Edition CD Nigel Olsson Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
As part of Collectables' Golden Classics series, former Elton John drummer Nigel Olsson is spotlighted on previously released material originally recorded in the late '70s. The nine tracks include "Say Goodbye to Hollywood," "Living in a Fantasy," "Dancin' Shoes," and a cover of the Jamels' 1961 hit "Little Bit of Soap." Considering the obscurity of CDs available by Olsson, this affordable disc should please both casual fans and collectors. ~ Al Campbell

Golden Classics Edition album
$11.29 With its swirling keyboards and falsetto vocals, "Magic" became one of the great one-shots of the '70s, and it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone familiar with one-hit wonders that Pilot's accompanying full-length isn't as good. Despite the lack of strong material, the album is hardly without merit. Pilot, along with producer Alan Parsons, crafted an album of light prog-rock and melodic soft pop-rock. All of the album sounds terrific, and there are some catchy melodies, but there aren't many great songs, just a lot of adequate ...

1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album ...

Golden Classics Edition album
$23.29 There couldn't be a more fitting title for this collection of gruesome grooves by modern rock's most paradoxical artist; it implies the cataclysm of a national tragedy, and still completely understates the impact this band has had in shaping the face of popular music. How could anyone forget the self-proclaimed "Antichrist Superstar" and his macabre circus? Once a Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) protege, the visually intense Marilyn Manson quickly eclipsed his mentor with releases that peered beneath the facade of American life, revealing a seedy, ...
| | Brian Eno Another Day On Earth CD (2005)
Golden Classics Edition CD music
$15.25 At the time of ANOTHER DAY ON EARTH's release in 2005, it had been 28 years since ambient-music godfather Brian Eno had released an album of vocal-based songs (not counting a 1990 duo record with John Cale). Eno's '70s "pop" albums were part of a different age and represented a different Eno, one who'd laid the groundwork for glam with Roxy Music and was, for all his eccentricities, ...
