The sequels-in spirit if not in name-to Percy Faith's earlier albums EXOTIC STRINGS, VIVA!, DELICADO and AMOUR, AMOR, AMORE continue the Toronto-born orchestra leader/arranger's exploration of Latin and southern European rhythms and styles. On DELICADO, Faith adds Brazilian sambas and Caribbean rhumbas to his repertoire, while the more sedate AMOUR, AMOR, AMORE finds Faith delving into French chanson and Italian romantic ballads alongside the Spanish and Portuguese styles he'd worked with before. All of the different styles work quite well with Faith's lush orchestral sense, and it's all very agreeable to those disposed to this sort of thing. Unlike some of the other two-fer CDs of Faith's albums, this 71-minute CD didn't require any songs to be excised from the original vinyl.
Includes original release liner notes.

| | Mobb Deep Amerikaz Nightmare CD (2004)
Delicado/Amour, Amor, Amore
$9.09 Since exploding in 1995 with the indisputable classic THE INFAMOUS, the Queens, New York-based duo Mobb Deep has had a profound influence on both mainstream and underground hip-hop. AMERIKAZ NIGHTMARE proves that, once again, Havoc and Prodigy are several steps ahead of the game. The album opens with the claustrophobic, gun-toting title track, which finds producer Havoc in familiar territory, assaulting the senses with distorted, multi-layered synthesizers and crashing percussion. On track two, "Win or Lose," the Alchemist samples Jean Plum's "Here I Go Again" as Havoc and Prodigy discuss the finer points of hustling. Elsewhere, the single "Got It Twisted" makes clever use of a sample from Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me with Science."
In typical hip-hop fashion, outside artists add their own special flavor to several tracks. Standouts include Nate Dogg's ridiculously catchy chorus on "Dump" and Lil Jon's mere presence on "Real Gangstaz." The record also features Kanye West, who contributes another superior track, the Organized Noize-infused "Throw Your Hands (In the Air)." AMERIKAZ NIGHTMARE is pure, unadulterated hip-hop, a lesson for aspiring rappers and a gift to fans of the genre.

| | Cosmonauti Bikini Angel CD (2003)
Delicado/Amour, Amor, Amore
$11.79 " I Cosmonauti came to my attention some years ago back through a couple of seven inch releases. There was something happening in the musicianship and exuberant performances that caught my fancy. Eventually the promise of the singles was met when a full album came along. For me, the whipped cream on the top of that cake was the US tour they mounted in 1999.On that tour, they played a great two-set show on a fine sunday afternoon/evening at the Fuel in San José. I was privileged to MC the show and record their performance. Their performance was excellent, full of their surf vacation sounds. It made me jealous of their italian fans who ...
