| | Intruders Philly Golden Classics CD Intruders Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
This features all the great Intruders tracks uncut and digitally remastered; 112-plus minutes divvyed among 30 tracks. These light, peppy sounds are so arresting they play more quickly than their times. Diehards will lament the omissions of "I'm Girl Scoutin'," "Devil With an Angel's Smile," "Lollipop," "Give Her a Transplant," "Old Love," and some strong B-sides, but this is good and all that the Intruders' big fans will ever need. Little Sonny (Sam Brown) displays snake-charming ability via a sandpapery tenor, and Eugene Daughtery, Phil Terry, and Robert Edwards provide some of soul's most enjoyable harmonies. Check the pings in "A Love's That Real." ~ Andrew Hamilton
The Intruders: Sam "Little Sonny" Brown, Eugene "Bird" Daughtry, Philip Terry, Robert "Big Sonny" Edwards.

Philly Golden Classics album
$10.45 "Here In Angola," "Pandora," and "Indian Summer" were originally released on the LP INDIAN SUMMER.
24 CARROTS is folk-rocker Al Stewart's 1980 album, recorded with Shot in the Dark. This reissue features five bonus tracks, "Here in Angola", "Indian Summer", "Pandora", "Delia's Gone", and "Princess Olivia".
The pun of the title of 24 Carrots -- the first overt signal of humor Al Stewart has displayed in years, possibly ever -- illustrates that a ...

| | Doors Soft Parade CD (1969) Gold; Remastered
Philly Golden Classics CD music
$20.29 Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's most radio-friendly offering, is a pop classic that ranks among the great '60s AM radio tunes. "Wild Child" is a brief return to the blues-rock of yore, but the title track is a sophisticated, extended piece that moves through several different moods and textures, full of the elliptical, poetic lyrics that were Morrison's trademark.
The weakest studio album recorded with Jim Morrison in the group, partially because their experiments with brass and strings on about half ...

En Vogue may not have been as visionary as TLC, but they were still one of the best female urban groups of the '90s, which is why their Very Best collection works so well. Album by album, they delivered terrific singles, from the swaggering "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" and "Free Your Mind" to the yearning "Don't Let Go (Love)" and "Hold On," plus such wonderful duets as "Whatta Man," where they team with Salt-N-Pepa to deliver a songs so sexy it hurts (but, as John Mellencamp says, it hurts so good). All these are here on this 16-track collection, along with several other singles that didn't climb as high on the charts, plus album tracks, and, well, filler, like a remix of "Hold On." This collection gets the nod over 1999's Best of En Vogue because it has a sharper selection of songs that really make a good case for their gifts. It may have benefited from fewer songs, since it would be a better listen if it was nothing but their ten best songs, but it still offers the best encapsulation ...
