PUBLIC ENEMY is the soundtrack from the movie directed by Jens Muerer. Musical score composed by Nile Rogers and performed by Chic.
Inasmuch as this recording is meant to be an accompaniment to a motion picture, one wouldn't expect any of the compositions to stand on their own merit. However, Public Enemy, The Movie Soundtrack is more than capable of establishing itself as an entity completely separate from the film. Painstakingly labored over by Nile Rodgers through his own record label, this collection of reflective and politically stirring songs and commentary embodies the mood and sentiment of the American Civil Rights Movement of the late 1960's and meshes it with the social concerns of the latter day 1990's. More than just a random smattering of Black Panther Party diatribes, this soundtrack connects on a variety of levels. From smooth, groove-heavy rap beats, to dialogue snippets from the film, through funky guitar rhythms (that are indicative of (Nile Rodgers)' musical style), this disc realistically supports the conflicting and controversial nature of this historical period, and opens the arena for present-day discussion and evaluation. From a purely musical standpoint, Public Enemy, The Movie Soundtrack covers all the bases from rap, to reggae, to disco funk and soul. But, more than that, this recording is an examination of the American conscience. ~ Roxanne Blanford

| | Emma Roberts Unfabulous And More CD (2005)
Public Enemy Soundtrack music CDs
$7.69 Half soundtrack, half teen pop debut album, Emma Roberts' Unfabulous and More features songs from the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous -- in which Roberts plays Addie Singer, a sensitive but sassy 13 year old who writes songs to cope with the ups and downs of adolescence -- as well as a few new tracks. Much like Hilary Duff's first forays into pop during Lizzie McGuire, Roberts is fresh and genuine, and the album is filled with sweet, idealistic songs sung by a young girl who sounds like a young girl instead of a pop tart. Unfabulous and More is just as musically eclectic, if not more so, than many of the albums by established teen divas: it spans the big, shiny pop of "I Wanna Be," the spunky rock of "Punch Rocker," and "Say Goodbye to Jr. High," a detailed look into the inner workings of the junior-high caste system set to ...
| | Sword Age Of Winters CD (2006)
Public Enemy Soundtrack songs
$11.25 Coming to grips with the Sword's unlikely genesis in the alternative music Mecca of Austin, TX, leads one to wonder whether heavy metal has finally become hip again. Depending on your generation, nothing will seem as simultaneously preposterous (Gen-X'ers who came of age during pop-metal's heyday and don't recognize it as an unrepresentative anomaly) or obvious (everyone else) when discussing a genre that's spent the bulk of its 35-year history on the absolute fringe of rock culture. If that isn't "alternative," well, what is? In any case, glorifying heavy metal's prototypical qualities is exactly what the Sword is all about, and their 2006 debut, Age of Winters, sees them joining California's High on Fire, Sweden's Witchcraft, and Australia's Wolfmother (to ...

$16.45 Josh Harty 'Long List of Lies' (MRC cd)"One of the best young talents I have heard in years." Bob Rhea, Minnesota Public Radio"Harty's voice appeals to empathy for the forlorn! simply and subtly." Wisconsin State Journal"One of Madison's best singer/songwriters." Dane 101"Josh Harty is one of those talents who you're not sure if you should applaud in adoration or strangle out of envy." Duluth News Tribune"An American singer/songwriter prodigy." The Nenagh Guardian, IrelandJosh Harty began playing music in his hometown of Kindred, North Dakota under the tutelage of his father when he was only six years old. From the beginning his music was marked by a love of gospel, country, and blues, and over the years Harty's sound has mellowed into a catalog of original songs that is at once greater than the sum of its parts and most assuredly rooted in its origins. In a career that has spanned 24 years, Harty has graduated from playing nursing homes and Lion's Clubs with his father, to opening for music legends such as Iris Dement, Kelly Joe Phelps, Robert Cray, and B.B. King. On his second solo outing, Long List of Lies, Harty delivers on the promise of his immense and singular talent.Bob Rhea of Minnesota Public Radio has called Harty "one of the best young talents I have heard in years," and Dane 101 has called him "one of Madison's best singer/songwriters." The Wisconsin State Journal has called 'Long List of Lies' "a more upbeat and measured album than his excellent 'Three Day Notice'. One might go a step further and declare that it is his breakout album. Backed by a brilliant group of local Madison musicians, Harty has crafted a powerful and celebratory album that exudes the wisdom and contentedness that come with really ...
