(1 Customer Review)
Reissued several times in various forms since its initial 1987 release, Spacemen 3's second album is a remarkable departure from the band's 1986 debut, SOUND OF CONFUSION. Reduced to a trio (guitarists/keyboardists Pete "Sonic Boom" Kember, ... Full DescriptionJason "Spaceman" Pierce, and bassist Pete Bassman) following the departure of the first album's drummer, Spacemen 3 makes an asset out of the newfound lack of percussion, giving THE PERFECT PRESCRIPTION a considerably less rock-oriented sound with much more open space in its varied, subtle arrangements. Highlights include one of Spacemen 3's finest cover versions, an extremely long, beautifully lush, violin-accented meditation on the Red Krayola's classic "Transparent Radiation," as well as the foreboding "Take Me to the Other Side." The album title introduces Pierce's pharmaceutical fixation, further developed in later Spacemen 3 album titles and Spiritualized cover art, but this album sounds suitably mind-warping on its own.
Producers: Pete "Sonic Boom" Kember, Jason Pierce.
Spacemen 3: Jason (vocals, guitar, organ, Farfisa organ); Sonic Boom (vocals, guitar, organ); Bassman (bass).
Additional personnel: Owen John (violin); Alex Green (saxophone); Mick Manning (trumpet); Rosco (percussion).
Alternative Press (7/95, p.83) - Ranked #31 in AP's list of the `Top 99 Of '85-'95' - "...They had British style and an American heart. They created mutant Thatcher-era gospels and on-the-dole recession blues....THE PERFECT PRESCRIPTION was exactly that: Something gorgeous to see you through the Everyday and the Endless Night." | | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Perfect Prescription songs
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. ...
| | Arcade Fire Funeral CD (2004)
Perfect Prescription album
$12.25 Favorably compared to the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and Broken Social Scene, the Arcade Fire's sound seems to come from a lifetime of listening to the Cure, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, and many others--even a dose of soul gets worked into these grand anthems. Chassagne delivers some spellbinding vocals on "Haiti," while the tinkling piano and strings on "Crown of Love" conjure up a heartbroken surfside prom. In 2004, this made many critics' year-end lists, and it's no wonder--the songs on FUNERAL are so packed with unique instrumentation, mesmerizing build-ups, and galvanizing tempo changes that they seem culled from some enigmatic, decade-spanning rock anthology.

Perfect Prescription songs For Sale Pre-Order Now! Available: Tuesday, July 14, 2009
$12.90 In 1992, quirky and seemingly non-commercial bands were being signed to major labels by the boatload, thanks to the newfound success of alternative rock. One of the most blatantly bizarre acts to be taken under a corporate wing was Ween, a duo of Pennsylvania pranksters with a penchant for eclectic--and often wholly inappropriate--pop/rock tunes.
For the group's Elektra debut, PURE GUAVA, Dean and Gene Ween remained unapologetically weird from the get-go, as the drowsy, druggy "Little Birdy" ushers in the thoroughly skewed proceedings. While songs such as "Reggaejunkiejew," "Touch My Tooter," and "Poop Ship Destroyer" stick to sophomoric themes and a lo-fi sound, the prog-rock-like "The Stallion Pt. 3" and the (relatively) straightforward ballad "Sarah" hint at even greater things to come. ...

He toured the US in support of the album with his band, opening for acts such as Sebadoh, Goo Goo Dolls, and Beth Hart. The album was recorded in Sweden in the dead of winter, at The Blue Room studios, produced by Marty Willson Piper of the band The Church, along with Justin. Limb was never released outside of the US, though a single - "Collide" from the album, was released in the UK in 2002. In 2005 Limb has been re-issued on his own imprint. SOME PRESS QUOTES: " ...a stunning debut solo effort...Limb is a wonder." -WALL OF SOUND "...it would be a far better world were there more beautiful little pop albums like this. This is the tasteful, understated album David Bowie was trying to make with hours..." -NEW YORK PRESS "One of the best independent ...
