SLIDE RULE finds Douglas returning to a more bluegrass-based acoustic sound after his "new acoustic" adventures of the '80s. On those MCA Masters Series records, he messed around with digital processing and drums--with mixed results. With SLIDE RULE, Douglas began inviting guest singers in--a successful practice he has continued with equally fine results on the more recent RESTLESS ON THE FARM. He's backed by a killer band, featuring Scott Nygaard, Mark Schatz, and Stuart Duncan, and Alison Krauss' vocal turn is particularly winsome. Douglas also offers up three solo pieces, two of them on Weissenborn guitar.
